Question about 1998 Ford Explorer

Transmission install Having trouble with aligning up tranie with engine. 1/2 inch off, do not see what the issue is? Have any idea?

Yes, typically the torque converter needs to be rotated and pressed towards the transmission, or serious damage will result. In essence the converter should be able to clear the flywheel during trans mounting. The converter needs to be rotated, lifted, jiggled, etc, to line up splines and the pump.

    if certain the torque converter is fully seated into trans proceed but note also that you have to align the flywheel holes with the torque converter studs accessible only through the starter opening before final contact can be made. for some reason ford did not get this clearance right.

1989 model ?. Why doesn't transmission install completely?

Your shaft alignment is not lined up correctly. That last 1/2" is where the tip on the end of the shaft, where the gear starts, won't go in. I know you think it is ok but it's not. BUT 1st try lowering the rear of trany on floor jack so you can move it up and down and side to side with ease a little at a time and try it.
If that's not doing it then go up a little at a time and try.
You will not have to force it, when you get it, it will slide right in.
PS Check completely for something that's in the way
Now chill, go get a drink, take 5 and start a new and in it goes. With a little cursing.

did the trans come with the proper fluid(recommended by Chrysler) and level. was the whole system flushed? Reused sensors could be an issue if one or more is faulty.

I have a 95 mercury sable 3.8 liter and when I drive for too long in warm weather, it leaks tranny fluid

This is an interesting one. Where is the transmission fluid leaking from? If it is coming out of the transmission where it meets the engine, then you are looking at replacing the front transmission seal, and to do this you will need to pull the transmission. If it is not leaking at this spot, then you are looking at a line leak, and will need to replace the bad line. There are going to be two lines for the transmission, make sure that yoyu inspect each one of them thoroughly/ They are the usual culprit when a transmission starts to leak.

This is very common. Assuming you're certain that you have the correct replacement converter. You just have to be very patient and keep slowly rotating the converter while wiggling it, and gently pushing it in. The hub on the converter is keyed to interlock with the fluid pump in the transmission, and has to be aligned just right to engage and slide all the way in.

Don't make the mistake I did ONCE and rush not being certain that it is fully engaged. I had to have the transmission rebuilt because of the damage that was done just starting the engine one time.

1.Can a flashing hold light/faulty mass air flow sensor burn the clutches in a transmission? 2.if vehicle reves out after changing into second gear and transmission is rebuilt and problem still persist...

The ecm would not cause this, it sounds like someone did a poor rebuild, if the engining is reving and the car doesnt what to go then the clutches may be bad, a mass are flow would not cause a trany to go bad, the flashing hold light is a problem but should not be happening after the trany was just rebuilt, something is not right here, the trany was just rebuilt and now the hold light flashes and the motor rev going into 2nd gear, that trany has problems a bad ecm wouuldnt cause this slipping reving problem you are having , i would have a trany shop check to see if that trany was really rebuit.

by changing motor is better for you the engine only has 44,000 miles those engines are good motors. you will not have problems just because the other engine has less miles. if anything thats better, only problems would be if you dont preform maintance to drive train,(trany) i would have it done, hope this helps.

Transmission needs replacement in '95 dodge stratus with 2.4l

saffety is n0 1 this is a major work you neded to be careful, here some sugestions 1 raise the car with a car jack ind the front of car 2 instal 2 jack stands eacht side 3 bloc the rear weels pull on hand brake 4 disconect the batterie drain the transmision . if there is no drain plug on the carter, disconect one of the trani line and crank the engine on until all the fluid goes out.5remove the tires and the axles unplug all the electircal attachements to the trani,unhook the shift cable 6 remove the torque converter bolts or nuts 7remove all the bolts attaching the trany to the engine make sure you have a floor jack to receive the trany when it fail down do not work under the car or check it to mutch

well it also can b sylinoid inside the transmision...take the the trany pan off & sylinoids located there for shifiting figure or get diagram which 1 to which gears
