So, the correct weight is esactly what the manufacturer reccomends, regardless of miles. The idea of heavier weight after lots of miles, actually causes more damage.
If you have consumption issue, consider HIGH MILEAGE BLEND, I have witnessed reduction in consumption, without "thickeners". Casteroil and Valvoline make this oil, and it is semi synthetic..

Transmission Problems?

An automatic transmission with 300,000 miles on it should be in some kind of record book it's unheard of !!! It seems counterintuitive but changing the fluid on a tranny with this many miles can be the death knell. I have seen it many times but if you got that many miles out of it was on deaths door anyway. If you are really attached to it don't even think about a junk yard tranny, they will be just a little less worn out that the original in you car now. FYI it's going to be at least 2G's to have it rebuilt.

The best recommended oil for lincoln 1997 4.6 L V8 with over 300,000 miles also what would be the most fuel efficent recommended brand spark plug

originally it calls for 5w-30, but you could probably go to 10-30 or even 10w-40 since at 300,000 miles it seems logical that clearances are not what they used to be-and congratulations, that is some achievement!

I just bought a 96 geo tracker. i have some questions. lets start with the easiest, what kind of oil is best for it? next, the brake lights don't turn on, is that an easy fix? the light in the...

oil weight depends on how many miles engine has. I would go wits 10w30 syn blend to make start easy (eliminate dry start)

regarding lights, make sure to check fuses, if all of them good let me know and i'll send u full schematic

as for 50 mph issue:
1 check spark plug gap
2 check air filter
3 make sure that rotor (ignition) is still alive

I have a 2004 santa fe what kind of motor oil and multi grade you recomend for this SUV thanks

Use exactly what weight is listed in your owner's manual or on the oil fill cap. More than likely you will find it requires 5w20 weight. I personally use Pennzoil and have for over 30 years with not one internal engine problem. But any major brand will be good. Also very important is the filter. Use a quality filter such as Purolator, Wix, or Bosch and avoid cheap filters. I personally use Purolator Pure One filters. Change your oil and filter every 5,000 miles and your engine will give you great service. Also change the Air Filter every 30,000 miles as it is very important to keep it clean. Change your fuel filter, if changeable, every 50,000 miles. Some vehicles have permanent fuel filters.

What motor oil weight should I be using on my 96 olds 88....we live where the winter temps can go as low as -10 F and as hot as 95F in the summer

5w 30 or 10w 30 during the winter. After an oil change... check your oil after 200-300 miles of use. Is the level the same? If so your weight is fine. If it drops, it's to light of an oil and your engine is now "drinking it" like fuel, move to a heavier weight. As far as Changing between winter and summer. Changing Oil weights is not bad for your motor so if the winter you go with 5w 30 and it works, great, shoot for the same during the summer. If it seems to "drink it" during the summer using this weight, go up to the next (10w 30)

That being said. Changing from natural oil, to synthetic, back to naturual , or vice versa... swapping back and forth between these KINDS of oil has been known to cause damage. so whatever weight you decide on, stick with one "type", natural or synthetic.

sounds like u had a oil pump go bad

if motor ceased it junk now but with this truck only having 72000 miles on it i would put a new motor in it if you do decide to put new motor in it and plan on doing that kind of towing i highly recomend puting a oil cooler on it and high voulme oil pump if this truck has a factory oil cooler that in the radaitor i recomend u disconnect that one and put a aftermarket cooler on it if u do decide to reuse old oil cooler make sure you blow all the old oil out of cooler because it probley has **** in it from motor seizeing

Sounds like a rattle in the top of the motor. you can hear ir when you gas up the engine. It is not a knok

Usually due to poor oil quality or high miled & poorly maintained drive-train . I hope its not the latter . I recomend a good straight weight oil ( ex. HD30) and a bottle of lucas engine oil stabaliser . The lucas will clean & quiet a noisey valve-train . Try the whole line for your trans. and rear diff. and power steering . I HAVE FOUND NO OTHER PRODUCTS ANY BETTER

Do i have to take the engine out to change the oil pump on a 98 jeep wrangler 4.0 I-6

Actually oil pumps in the JEEP 4.0 are notorious for going out or wearing at 1500000 miles as you will find in most blogs and topics. And the 4.0 is a very solid motor capable of 300,000-400,000 miles if taken care of,unless driven hard I wouldnt say it would be worn out!

After driving for awhile oil light comes on when i stop, goes back off when i give it gas

The engine bearings and oil pump are getting worn. Try 'high-mileage' oil next oil change (be sure to change the filter too). If you have been running 10-30 oil, go to 10-40 which has more viscosity and maintains oil pressure better. The sure fix is a fresh engine, but not cheap. We had a '96 Caravan that had over 300,000 miles and still running well on the original engine when we bought a later model Caravan.
