2002 chevy venture van, 3.4L is there a way to set the cooling fans so they come on sooner.

I would look at the coolant temp with a scan tool the fans should come on when the coolant gets around 240 degrees. If the scan tool shows about 240 and the gauge shows higher than the gauge is the problem.

2002 montana the temp gauge stays in the middle but when i drive it and come to a stop i lose heat i replaced the thermostat and water pump flushed the system refilled and purged what eles could be wrong

your heater core may be partially clogged up, when you come to stop the engine speed slow down and so does the water pump. therefore you don't have enough flow until you hit the gas and the engine rev up again

The temp gauge says the engine is hot but, in

I'm not certain if this engine has coolant bleeder valves, but if it does, make sure there aren't any pockets, particularly around the sending unit. Something is fooling the computer into thinking that things are really, really hot.

Presurize system with radiator cap on to see if you are holding 10 to 13 LB pressure as high as 17 LB. Get new radiator cap for your radiator. Check for a slow leak at pump hose thermostat conection , is it wet ?

the temp sensor is the trigger for the fans!!
the thermostat may be in upside down??
check new thermostat in a pot of water & heat it up watch that it opens up when it heats up should be at aroun 96 degrees F
otherwise the radiator may need a good clean out or a recore!
there my be a blocked water gallery so engine may need a flush aswell

2002 LIBERTY OVERHEATING:

do you have a "check engine" light on? A bad temp sensor would give a wrong reading. Do you get heat from your heater core? Also make sure you are getting a good flow from catalytic converter and muffler so you know they aren't plugged heating up engine temp. Also make sure all your heat shields are in tact. Are you using 50/50 mix or mostly water? Though in cold temps you normally want to use more antifreeze less water, I would try more water, less antifrezze.
