Washer pump, oil pump, water pump, transmission pump - which are we talking about? Also, what size motor (and/or transmission, if applicable) are you talking about? More data is required in order to answer the question.

Sounds like bearing in the front of my 1500 chev in four wheel only lound whine

If it whines when in the 4x4 position but not at any other time then the noise you hear may be coming from the transfer case and is caused by the high gear load of driving both axles on a this type of surface. If you are driving in the 4x4 position on any dry hard surface you will hear some noise from the transfer case and usually it is a noticeable whine. Also, driving in 4x4 on a dry/hard surfaces greatly adds to the strain and wear on the power train. It would also be a good idea to have the both axles and transfer case fluid levels checked to be sure none of them are low. Hope this helps a bit and good luck!

What spec oil is used in the transfer case of a 1996 chev tahoe

The transfer case shows to use Automatic Transmission Fluid. I would personally use a full synthetic transmission fluid as well. I showed three transfer case options for that vehicle and depending on which one you have it will hold anywhere from 1.5 quarts to just a little over 2 quarts depending on which one you have.

Sluggish '96 chev 4x4

id start off with a basic tune never know when u first buy a car when this stuff was lasted checked up on..i would first change the fuel filter if its clogged its really going to slow you down..then i would do and oil change to it and maybe the plugs and wires..check all of the fluid levels especially the transmission fluid..if you want to add horsepower and performance i would put better oil better wires and plugs and maybe a k&n filter instead of a paper one..
