My 10 month old alternator (built in regulator) in my 1999 subaru, New battery, is overcharging again. help

Battery overcharge


I would think that your vehicle has a voltage regulator built into the alternator, but I am not sure. I do not have alot of Jag experience. But this sounds like what your problem is. The voltage regulator is stuck and making the alternator put out full charge and wreaking havoc with your electrical system.

My jeep is overcharging by the gauge


with a car that old its possible the gauge is off but to be sure you can go to autozone or pepboys im pretty sure they will test the charging system for free . or if you have a volt meter you can check it yourself it should be 14-14.8 with the car running anything higher than 14.8 is overcharging . if it is overcharging you will need an alternator for sure and if the battery is over 3 years old its best to replace that too so you dont break down in the near future because overcharging cooks the battery so whatever life it has left has been cut hope this helps

Overcharging alternator is killing my battery. is the voltage regulator in the computer? 1992 plymouth grand voyager 3.3 v6


This year it is not supposed to be in the computer,look on the firewall in the middle,I believe it is flat,and has a three wire connector,but only two wires in the plug,see if you can find it.

2006 uplander replaced battery month ago then replaced again yesterday cuz it was leaking now new battery is leaking and car has a misfire code


check your alternator.if it is overcharging it can cause the battery to leak. IT should be built into the alternator, however if it is not have the voltage regulator checked as well. After you do this reset your computer and if the cylinder misfire code returns you will need to inspect your plug and coilpack/wire.

My alternator on my 86 econoline rv is putting out 45+ volts. Is that possible? Is the alternator fried or wired wrong?


DO NOT run it for long you will burn something up....most likely the ALT. REGULATOR is stuck, advise a new alt and retest....normal out-put is 12.5V>14.0V...15>25A with everything else good....I have never seen 45+V but it's possible with a shorted regulator ....hope this helps you...GL

1991 jeep wrangler: alternator overcharging


It sounds as the voltage regulator which is built into the back of the alternator has stuck. Occaisionally this even happens on new ones. Would suggest taking the alternator back as it shoud be under warranty.

low voltage pulling by what your saying it sounds like your alternator is about to give up seeing that it cant disperse elec. to other units so its draining off the battery

change out the voltage regulator they didnt change your alternator they just rebuilt it or did nothing it sounds like

voltage regulator = adjusts the voltage
some are built on the alternator and is replaced at once with new alternator
others look like a little fin like an amp usually black in color this you will see bolted on the fender right or left this is a voltage regulator

somtimes you get a bad alternator in box when it can be new this is a chance chance cause now most parts are remand.
i still believe its your alternator you either of several things
got ripped off
got a bad alternator in replacement or
you got a bad voltage regulator by itself

I have a 1999 chevy malibu and it is over charging. I tryed a new alternator and that did not fix the problem. I tryed a new battery and that did not work either. so what do i try next


What do you mean overcharging? Put a volt meter on battery...It should be about 14.5 volts. Since you already replaced the regulator (inside the alternator) The only thing left is that the new regulator is bad. Easy to replace...place paperclip through hole in back to hold brushes until fully assembled then remove.
