2005 chevrolet silverado blower motor works on 1-4 and not on high

i have replaced the wiring harness and blower motor resistor after finding that they were melted together. It ran for about 5 minutes and stopped working again. but this time the fan will not turn on at all. Originally it ran on levels 1-4 and not on 5. I have read on other forums it may be a fuse or the switch for the blower motor not sure. Any suggestions

Now that it is not working, the first thing to do is use a volt meter/multi-meter to check for voltage at the blower motor itself. Let me know if it is getting voltage on any or all fan speed ranges.

if you got heat on all speeds and the blower motor is working properly then you probably need a new HVAC switch.

What is making my 2005 Silverado's blower motor stay on high even when the truck is turned off? It keeps running, it drained my battery.

Your BCM (body control module), must have gone bonkers. Have it checked out. Might just need a little tweaking-like re-setting.
Good luck.

Chk for power at the blower motor electrical connector. If no voltage, check the blower motor resistor, its within the blower motor vent (this controls power to the blower motor). Also, in theses vehicles water may have damaged the blower motor itself. Inspect the blower motor for proper function.

Blower does not work on 5

Sounds like the high speed blower relay is bad. It's built into the resistor.

Why doesn't ac blower work on number 5 setting? it is a chevy hd gas engine

Most likely the blower motor resistor. It's mounted next to the blower motor under the dash. Also check the 7 wire plug going to it, GM had a problem with that plug, and the wiring getting hot and melting. The plug is $68.00 from the dealership. One of my customer's car had the same problem.

Changed the resistor pak with new one and all the speeds do not work, smells like something is burning when blower motor is on which only works on high speed.

Did you also change the connector at the same time?

Here is a step-by-step check you can do to fix it. If you are only getting high speed (setting 5), then most likely you have a resistor problem, or the wiring connector to the resistor is bad. The ground wire prong being bad is a possible cause.

Check this for step-by-step checks:

I have a 2005 chevy silverado heater/ac fan stopped working . Checked fuses all were good .Removed fan and it works ,whats next?

Treed55508,

Try this solution. I have had the same issue three times. A Chevy tech told me that if it keeps doing it, to replace the blower motor, as it seems to be a chronic problem with the blower having to much resistance and thus burning out the resistors. I suspect that you probably had lost one speed first and then more. It has happened both ways with me, once the entire thing went out at once and then the other times it goes one speed at a time.
