Hi these models are notorious for crank sensors Situated front of engine near engine oil filter. Before they fail completely the engine will shut down as soon as your engine reaches operating temperature note. The crank sensor does not throw a code half the time. Even without check engine crank sensor is possible. To confirm it's not a fuel issue open flexible air intake pipe which leads to m.a.f. Sensor. ( mass air flow ). On the engine side spray a few seconds of air intake cleaner and crank the engine over if it runs a few seconds. Fuel issue.
Air intake cleaner spray can available auto parts store. Hope it helps some for diagnostic purposes.

Check for blockage on air intake system before and after air filter, had this problem a few times. Check coolant temperature sender reading with a diagnostic fault reader.won't register a fault as long as it's getting a reading but reading but reading may be incorrect. should be more or less ambient temp when cold. check injectors are spraying.

Checking for spark is really simple while fuel delivery is more complicated because of the the way it is metered for delivery. On VW's a fuel pump relay is used and a jumper cable connected to relay box. This controls the fuel pump to deliver fuel manually. With a fuel pressure gauge connected to the line from the pump continued withing the system, you assess whether you have correct fuel pressure, maintain it within a specif duration. Electronic fuel injectors do stick or stay open causing very poor or no start condition. Make sure you have fuel delivery since you are positive that spark is present.

1997 Chrysler Sebring cut out while running, replaced fuel pumd, cranksensor, got used distributer from running car, then replaced the computer and it started!! but cuts out right away!at first would

See if resetting your ECC (ECM) called the computer will get rid of these problems. You do it by unhooking both battery cables, waiting at least 15 minutes and rehooking the battery. No security thing, only the fact the computer needs new settings for the parts you installed.

I have a 1995 jetta it cranks but the fuel pump is not running to prime the system and there is no spark. the coil, fuel pump, distributor, and tried a new ignition, and fuel pump relay. still nothing....

The ECU will not run pump or ignition if it is not getting a proper signal from certain sensors. If this is a gas engine, a bad crank or cam sensor can cause this without always setting a code.

Have a 97 VW Passat VR6, it died one day as the check engine light came on, it would run for a few minutes and then die, running shorter each time. Took it in to the shop and got the fuel pump replaced,...

You need to check fuel pressure at the fuel rail.if pressure is at spec. Check spark at the plugs. Also replace relay for fuel pump if it isn't working. Could be a bad new fuel pump. Pull the codes first.

Moisture in tank? All lines clear? Fuel pump working properly, correct PSI? Any way you can check for fuel delivery at engine when it dies?

Hard cold start 1997 Jetta gas

can't say for sure but almost all engines that have come to me needing ether to cold start have poor compression. test the compression first.
you sould never need to use ether on a gas engine and very carefully on a diesel when very cold.
