Radio problem for a 1997 328i

Just recently acquired a BMW. It's a 1997 328i and I LOVE IT Problem is that the radio isn't working. I did some research and found out that I need a radio code to enter into the radio so I called BMW got got a code from them. Now whenever I turn the car on, everything is brightly lit but the radio screen has "Phone" in a very dimmed light. I read that I need to be in radio mode in order to insert the code but I can't get into radio mode or whatnot. It always has the word "Phone" in a very dim tone and I can't change it. Any ideas?

If you're talking about the Anti-Theft Security code for your radio, I'm fairly sure that only a BMW Dealership would be able to retrieve and reset the radio.

You could also try disconnecting the battery terminals for 10-20 minutes, and see if it resets.

SOURCE: code needed for Pioneer radio serial number PNB0125214

Take your radio out (Using an Allen wrench) there are 2 little doors on either side of your radio. Back out the recessed allen head screws till it stops and withdraw the radio out. Disconnect the radio wiring(no need to worry they only fit one way) take the radio to the dealer with your Reg. or title and ask the service advisor for the code. (they might try to charge you for the code. But just complain and say" that you have had many bmw and you've been comming to the dealer for parts for years now and it that how you treat me"!) that should get you the code (If you are a woman then wear something tight & Skimpy) same effect. put the radio back in and input the code...

You should be good to go.

I can not get power on for my 2004 M3 radio.

Does it happen to say "CODE" ? Was battery recently disconnected or go dead? Ot's your theft deterrent radio and needs code to be unlocked. Check owners manual for small credit card size card, that has you code and enter it into your radio. If you don't have code, you're going to have to either have BMW or yourself pull radio and provide BMW the serial # off of radio.

Check your fuses. If moisture or a power surge happen recently it's pretty common. NOTE have your radio code handy, you'll need that to get radio up and running.

I have a 1994 BMW I havethe code for the radio but I can't unlock

I recently had my starter motor replaced. When I got in to drive my car the radio was showing "CODE" I have the code for my radio serial number (if you don't then you will need to get the serial number from the back of your radio unit and call your local BMW dealer, they have a database that they can look up for the correct code). Nothing was working and the unit kept beeping at me! I was trying everything and nothing was working. I since found out that the unit had "locked" me out! I rang the dealership, they said to leave the car in ignition with the radio on for exactly 1 hour (this resets it) then put in the code. Voila! It worked!

If the radio is displaying code wait, or wait, then the ignition and radio must remain on for 1hour. I would contact a dealer within the USA and provide them with your radio serial number. The serial number can be displayed in the radio by pressing and holding down the "M" button while turning on the ignition.

Radio

Since you swapped the radio and had the same problem, it has to be a fuse or broken wiring. I don't see any relays in the path of the radio that wouldn't cause many other accessories to not be powered as well.
