Question about BMW 750

1 Answer

BMW 1973 R75/5 LWB. I need to replace the battery. The old one is 3" wide, but there appears to be 5" in the battery compartment. Will a 5" battery fit, is it worth the [extra?] expense, and what brand(s) do you recommend? Thanks. [Sorry that I'm posting this as a car, but there's no m/c catagory].

I recommend fitting the original battery specification. If its large, you can try to make a new battery compartment, though I dont recommend that.
Here is a guide that will help you replace the battery : http://www.ehow.com/how_5022343_replace-car-battery-bmw.html
Also, regarding the brand, this will help you choose : http://hubpages.com/hub/Choosing-a-Car-Battery---Guide

How do I find the wiper relay on my 1997 BMW 740il. I ordered a factory wiper relay .its Tan in color, I cant find it. I need help from a professional can you help me.

It's located inside the power distribution panel.

The power distribution panel on your car is located under the hood in the engine compartment. It is located on the right passenger side closest to the firewall.

When you open the cover to the PDP, you'll see a series of blade type fuses in the front compartment and a bunch of wire harnesses in the back- that's where you'll find the tan colored relay you need to replace.

I have attached a youtube video for you to watch because it appears that the most common cause of this relay failure is due to water build up in the PDP compartment which is causing serious wiring deterioration and rusting- not only to the wiper relay but to the other relay components in that block.

So should you be experiencing the same problem when you open the power distribution panel, you'll know what to do.

2001 BMW series 3 won't start engine, sounds like its not getting enough power to crank, but not sure why

Firstly test with another battery, sometimes an old battery cannot supply enough current even when the voltage level looks okay.
then,
Check for full voltage at the starter.
Check starter solenoid for freedom of travel.

The battery in my car is about 2yrs old and now

Generally the light will come on when the charging rate drops below normal, though sometimes it can actually go above. If wiring is intact, drive-belt is tight and battery tests good (age does not matter), the problem may be either a diode or regulator beginning to fail inside the alternator.
To get a good "ballpark" idea of how your system is working, put a volt meter on the battery and run it. Voltage should be about 13,5 volts then turn on all accessories. volts should not drop below 12,5 and should not slowly drop below 12volts.

Check & clean all battery connections first, see if that helps, then if not, Have your battery & charging system checked, such as alternator. It's trying to tell you somethings not right.

I have the same car I had the same problem. If you have the correct battery for your car with the same problem you have a short or positive ground in your dash/electric fuel pump/fuse box also be carefull of how you take the key from the ignition and if they're old replace them.
