There are several ways that system can fail if your saying it blows cold then hot it may just be low on charge if the hvac fan quits and everything goes dead then its uaslly a electrical connectoin problem to the hvac module head thats also called the control panel if its just the fan check the connector at the fan when its running if it goes off then try to replace the connector.

SOURCE: Looking for a free online repair manual for 2004 Ford Expedition

Pretty simple actually. Sounds retarded but here ya go:

Unscrew all the screws visible. This includes the armrest if applicable.

Get a tool from your local auto parts store that looks like a small pry bar that has a little slot in the middle. it almost looks like the weed puller you use to remove dandelions. Seriously...you'll know it when you see it. This thing is a gem and works on ALL door panels. Slip it inbetween the door panel and the metal part of the door and start popping out the panel. You really want to get behind the plastic fastners if you can. Once you get to panel loose, you want to detach any electrical connectors from the door panel switches.

After that, use a little force to work it upwards to clear the door itself. the seal that is butted up against the glass is sometimes tight.

Do what you need to do and installation is in reverse order.

By the way, that tool is less than $10.00!

Good luck and post if you have any problems.

SOURCE: location of air conditioner low pressure valve

The low pressure valve on the 01 expedition is located on the accumulator on the passenger side fire wall. The accumulator is underneath the battery relay and a grouping of wires. Had to squeeze hand underneath a heater hose and an a/c line to remove cap and hook up hose. Nothing has to be removed to locate the valve just a little touchy feely. Valve faces a 45 forward toward the engine.

SOURCE: I have a 2006 Ford Expedition. The Air

you have a vacuum loss to the ac control head, the motors that divert air are vacuum operated, if you loose vacuum the system goes to defrost for safety reasons, the vacuum comes from the engine, then goes o a plastic vacuum tank under the hook start there, it is a 3/16 id hose.

Fuse system 2004 ford expedition for charging system

Chances are the wiring harness is rubbing on the air conditioner line and has rubbed through and broke one of the wires. You'll probably see a burn mark on the metal AC line as well. At least that what happened to mine and I had the same problem. I used a **** connector and put the broken wire back together and presto no more alt light. I did replace the harness a few weeks later

Air conditioner

I have a 2001 ford expedition. the a/c compressor cuts off and back on about every 30 seconds or so. When its on the air gets cold when it cuts back off the air starts warming up. Is this an indication that the freon is getting low?
