These engines are legendary for intake manifold gaskets leaking, and this is exactly what's happening with this one. Yes, you will have to remove the intake manifold, and to do so, you will need the torque diagram to remove it, and also to torque the new one. It's best that you buy a Haynes manual so you know the exact procedure; it's a $15 insurance that you will be glad to have. If you aren't having problems with the head gaskets, I'd leave them alone personally, but if you want to undertake these, now would be the time to do so, as there's not a lot more to take apart. Main suggestion though, is to be absolutely sure you keep the push rods in the exact order and orientation, as they each have a unique wear pattern with the lifter. Changing them can cause them to lose their seal, depriving the valve of oil, and ruining your head.

SOURCE: my 99 pontiac grand am wont idle or start i

First thing I would do is a compression test on cylinders, then fuel pressure test. Make sure your starter relay is good. If it is cranking over but not firing could be fuel relay, fuel pump, and could be as simple as a vapor lock. Spray some starter fluid in the intake, if it fires up for a couple seconds, then tells you not getting fuel, and this narrows down the search to the fuel pump relay, fuel pump.

Now your statement is YOUR CAR wont start or idle, as you can tell that is two different things. Which one is it, wont start at all? or starts then dies because it wont idle?If it wont start, then check the things I just advised, if it wont idle, then that could be plugs, coils, idle arm, fuel filter possibly clogged. List goes on and on. Need to know little more detail of what exactly it is doing, and what you have already checked or tried for me to dissect it down more direct with trouble shooting. I can help you for sure, just little more info needed, or you can go through the list I just said and it will I am sure fix problem once you check and repair or replace as you come across that problem area that is not functioning proper. Thanks Mike

2000 chevy venture 3.4l overheating

Have you replaced the intake manifold gaskets? These engines have a history of leaking intake manifold gaskets. Water leaks into the intake and is burned off in the cylinders. If the engine overheats enough times, you will eventually blow the head gaskets.

Start by performing a compression check to make sure you haven't blown the head gaskets. Then make sure the car is really overheating (i.e. check the temperature of the engine with a infrared thermometer (they are cheap at Harbor Freight).

If it is really overheating, and you've really changed everything else, you need to change the intake manifold gaskets. Be sure to get the improved gaskets from the parts store (they have a metal core with rubber coating).

Where is the upper intake manifold located on a 1997 Chevy 2500 van?

The upper part of the intake manifold is the plastic part of the assembly, it's held on with small 10 millimeter headed bolts. NOTE: This dosen't have to be removed to replace the lower intake gaskets.

Cooling leaking inside engine

If it does there may be a recall on it. Always check with the dealer before doing a big repair. Even though the truck is old they may still do it for free.
