Between the door and the pillar the wires have a short
You will need to get inside the rubber boot to find the problem wire

when the button is pushed to go up relay clicks but nothing happens i check for fire at both up and down position and both wires have fire at the same time i changed relay with no improvement

The relay is fine so remove the inside door trim and test the wires for voltage to the window motor. If power does show a reading to the motor and the motor does not move, replace the motor

You can also bench test the motor with a hot wire to any one of the two teminal ends to the window motor. The motors housing is the ground. I would simply smell the motor first before testing. If the mptor has a foul odor in it it will be fried inside and no use to test it

  • samlejeune May 31, 2010

i bench tested motor and it works both ways when put back in door it does not work i hooked a ground to the door this still does not correct the problem this is a new motor and does not smell burnt

  • samlejeune May 31, 2010

this is also a new switch

Alright then, you have check the relay the wiring and have a new switch. What is keft is the motor and to check it out. I am positively sure the motor will be the problem

Check the fuse box located underneath the drivers side steering wheel. Flip the fuse box lid cover off and on the other side is a diagram of what fuse controls what component. Locate the fuse that controls the power windows and see if it is blown out. If it is burned out, replace it with the same number fuse

1998 Ford F-150 left power window will not go down

Hi Larry

I do not know the this model of vehicle.
However from my experience the most common reason for the windows not going down is the override switch has been accidentally switched off (I assume there is an off switch adjacent to the controls on the drivers side).
You would be amazed the number people requesting fixes of power windows with this condition, a very simple and cheap fix.

Y1998 Ford F-150 left power window will not go down motor and window controller and switch has been replaced what would cause the window to not go down.

The window could be binding in the track. There may be debris in the track or the tracks on both sides may not be parallel due to age.

find the window motor and jump the switch with a 12volt power supply directly at the motor. if that dont work then disconect the motor and manually pull window up then use duct tape to hold it closed but you must disconect the motor for window to move

The electric rear sliding window does not work. Where is the fuse located? 2005 Ford F 150 Lariat Crew cab.

If the power windows still work, it is not a fuse issue, they share the same fuse ( F401 form the accessory delay relay )

Either the switch or the motor is the cause.

When you press the button to the close direction ( with the window closed ) do the lights dim ( headlamp / interior lamps ) ?
If they do, the window is getting power in that direction, so it could be the switch for the open direction or the motor, or something in the track.

If you pull down the overhead console ( the non rail one is open the sun glass compartment, and pull down on each rear corner, it is held up with spring clips ) the wires to the slider are Red w/ yellow stripe and yellow w/ light blue stripe.
If you apply power to these wires, one direction is open, the reverse is close. Test direct to the wires to know if the slider motor is the issue or the switch.

Check the entire track for obstructions

To get the slider motor, you need to remove the rear seat back

I have a 1988 ford f150 the windows won't roll down

if no sound is heard when the window button is depressed, check the fuse first, next, check the switch (window button) for electrical connection, most common in our shop however is the window lift motor - this is especially true if you can raise or lower the glass by hand without using the window button. if the motor makes a noise and doesn't lift the glass, the window lift motor may only need the gears replaced.

Drivers electric window stuck in down position

actually you have thought of all but the prob. The track has jumped, making the motor not move the window. Sometimes you can gently slide the window up by hand and then the motor will catch the track and finish rolling the window up

Rear power sliding window doesnt work fuse ok 2004 f 150 larait

Same on my '03 Lariat SuperCrew. I took out the "electric motor" aka 'regulator' and replaced it with a salvage - $150.
Got home and connected both of them separately - they both work for 1/4 of a second, then they cease working for no rhyme or reason. I'm angry because I just blew $150, and the problem hasn't been solved. Looking at the switch next.
