The check engine light will represent fault codes that the computer is sensing. Have a mechanic, or go to your local auto parts superstore and have them scan for the fault codes. This will at least give you an idea about some of your problems.

My 04 ford explorer is making a loud humming noise when driving. The noise is coming from front and gets louder the faster you drive.

Try to rotate the tires to rule that out.If not then it sounds like the wheel bearing is going out, on some cars you can replace the bearings on others youi have to replace the hub assembly

Don't know if it had anything to do with it,but i had washed down the engine compartment the previous afternoon. After having it towed to the dealership they told me it was the throttle body.They replaced it and all is good
