Question about Hyundai Santa Fe

Changed out fuel pump and filter, car was not getting enough gas next changed crank position sensor now no codes post car runnes until it warms up then it bogges down like it not getting spark fuel presure 56 psi now

The engine control module tests for fuel vapor leaks by selectively applying engine vacuum through the purge control valve and monitoring vacuum in the fuel tank while the valve that allows venting through the charcoal canister to the atmosphere (close valve) is closed. Sets if the engine is unable to pull the predetermined vacuum level on the fuel tank.

This could be caused by the fuel cap or any leak in the fuel vapor system. If you're unable to visually see a broken hose or component which would cause a leak, the next step typically requires specialized equipment to check for leaks.

This could also be caused by anything which would cause the vacuum to not reach the tank in the first place, such as a stuck closed purge valve or the vacuum line between the engine and purge valve being broken.


If the engine nearly stops running, I find it odd that there are no trouble codes related to the performace issue. This type of problem could be caused by low fuel pressure.


Potentially, you could have a problem with a catalytic converter. If the exhaust is restricted due to a converter coming apart, this could cause a insufficient engine vacuum to be applied to the fuel tank to reach the predetermined vacuum level, and it could cause the engine to run poorly, especially at higher throttle openings and higher rpms.


Unfortunately, there's no lone common cause for these issues, so I cannot advise you to make any repairs prior to definitively locating the issue. I'd say to check what you can: fuel vapor lines, purge valve for being stuck open, and even the converter if you can take the exhaust apart to check whether the converter is coming apart. Beyond that, it's probably cheaper to pay for professional diagnosis rather than guess at causes.

have you had the fuel pressure read from the pump ? i'd have the OBD codes read as will tell you which sensor/switch is at fault , that was bad luck if the pump did fail , i think it's more likely a sensor/switch issue , keep me posted if you wish

2003 SDi Volkswagen Polo, hard to start in mornings. Changed air filter, glo plugs, fuel filter and no change. I read the code with the OBD scan tool and I got code PO113 IAT sensor 1 Circuit High inp


Have that sensor checked or replaced. If the computer gets the wrong input signal from the intake air temperature sensor, it may not realize the engine is cold and not delivering enough gas at start-up.

1997 Saturn SL can't get it started Have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, CPS sensor and coolant sensor.


Im not sure if this will completely solve your problem, but I will give it a try.

If the engine is flooded, crank the engine while holding the gas pedal to the floor for a couple minutes (or until it sputters or starts). This will get all of the extra gas out of the engine. Your plugs will be fine.

Check your fuel pressure with a test kit...they have a bleeder port that can purge the air out of the fuel rail. Its possible the old gas may have gone bad in 6 years. you may have to purge the old gas with fresh gas. couldnt hurt to put a couple bottles of fuel injector cleaner with your gas. Your injectors could be gummed up with varnish from the old gas.

Before you waste a bunch of money and time replacing good parts, get a code reader or have a mechanic hook up a code reader for you. This will help isolate your problems. If you are not getting a check engine light, the mechanic method may be better because their computers will give you more information than a handheld.

Car cranks but will not start. stars for 2-3 seconds. full pump is good. would it be the crank sensor? no codes


It sounds like you need a new fuel filter. It runs until the fuel runs out and the fuel filter is preventing the fuel pump from reaching the correct fuel pressure. If the fuel filter doesn't fix the problem, you might have a bad crankshaft or camshaft position sensor, but this would usually cause the vehicle to die once it has warmed up a bit (when the timing starts to advance).
