Question about 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe

2002 Hyundai Santa Fe changed fuel filter and pump changed crank sensor car starts and idles when get warm will not run at like it is running out of gas 56 psi fuel pressure let it set and cool down and it runnes

    Cam postion sensor has not posted a code fuel pressure does not drop off stays about 50 psi for 10 minuets when shut down after it startes to warm up it just dies like it is not getting gas but it is getting gas let it set for hour it will start run beautiful until you rev it up then it dies and will not start

    2.4 liter had all the codes posted befor p0335 crank postion sensor was changed un plugged the cam

    postion sensor computer read it right away cam postion sensor p0334, plug it back in code went away let car set for hour went out started right away ran for five minuets will not start check code reader no codes posted

    yes still will not fire until in cooles down checked all of the vaccum hose no broken deterated hoses all in tact,even tried differant igmition coils, to no aval, have not had a code posted sense I replaced the crank sensor, until I disconnected the cam sensor, to see if it would pop a code it does,

    replace connector on cam sensor no codes there are no spakcontrol moduels on the 2.4 it almost feels like my 1979 ford t bird when it would get warm it would leave you until it cooled off then it would fire back up I am at and end here I have even tried a map sensor,still same thing some component is getting hot and shutting down have eliminated fuel but until I get a code to post it is like fishing in dark water the only thing I have not realy eliminated is the vapor canistor it might be causing to lose vaccum, it is my sons car and I have to get him back to college come tuesday morning I want to thank you for your help I should be fishing? but be back tomorrow morning hope the Gremlins fix it during the night

The 1st thing I need to know as an expert is whether u have any OBD2 electronic engine control fault codes stored in the memory of the PCM (on board computer), this is absolutely vital information, without it is guess work and that is not what you want to do here.

    do u watch the fuel pressure while it shuts down, does it drop? has the camshaft position sensor been replaced? did u have a crank sensor code, are u just guessing here?

    the PCM should log fault codes if this car is running this bad, normally I don't suspect it as a cause but u may have a defective PCM if this is the V6 have you tried disconmnectiong the MAF Mass Airflow) sensor to see if it runs better, when the MAF ias disconnected the system goes into failure mode strategy, if the MAF is at fault it will run pretty good, it is a quick taste to see if the MAF is defective, other than these educated guesses i would say u need the engine hooked up to a live data stream analyzer to see what is going on in the system, u know you are either losing spark or fuel.

My santa fe start and run 3 sec after stall but if i put it at 1500 rpm it always run. when stallihng its like i put the ignition off no esitation and i crank and run all the time but stall


suspect the fuel filter. if you replaced the fuel filter & still stall, use fuel pressure gauge to check the fuel system. (could be bad fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump.)

Where is the in-line fuel filter on a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe located.


I am not familiar with that model, but it dosen't sound like a fuel filter to me .
If it runs good after you get it started,the filter is probably ok,i don't know where it is located on that model,but it sounds like you have already found the problem (low fuel pressure) check for leaks,make sure the lines are on the right places on tank .Whatever is causing low fuel pressure is probably the solution.

I have just had similar problem was on my way to work and car just stopped like it ran out of fuel . my balance shaft belt broke which caused the timing belt to jump a tooth still waiting for a quote for repair its up to $2000 so far through hyandai. after looking at other web sites realised this is a common fault with 2002 santa fe. you may want to get the crank angle sensor checked as well as my car has done two so far. hope this helps and your car is not as serious as mine

2002 Santa Fe 2.7 V6 (California Car) 260,000 + miles. Engine idle will increase to about 1500 RPM and drop back to normal without notice, at times difficult to start (must hold throttle about half open)...


I faulty Idle Air Control valve (IAC) can cause these specific symptoms. You could try diconnecting the IAC valve (usually near the throttle body) and regulating the idle yourself. If the fluctuations go away and you are able to hold a constant idle position with the gas pedal (if vehicle will start), the IAC is the problem.
