Question about Chevrolet C1500

1 Answer

When cold it shifts fine, but when the weather is hot and when running the air conditioning it is very difficult to get it into 1st gear. I have changed the master and slave cylinders, and even had the clutch and pressure plate changed at a transmission shop. They couldn't seem to solve the problem either.

Have you changed the gearbox oil yet?

Sounds a lot like the first gear synchro in the transmission is worn. It may be easier to go into gear by first engaging second, then first. You could also try using atf in the transmission if you have not tried that yet.

Could be a little vapor lock in the hydralics. get new fluid **** out old stuff with turkey baster then refill with new stuff.open bleed screw at trans and let half of the fluid just drain out untill clear as the new stuff keep it filled while doig this so no air will get in. moisture in brake fluid greatly lowers boil point making vapor lock more common

check clutch hydrolics to make sure fluid is not low. Try double clutching. When in neutral, push clutch in, then out and in again and try shifting into low.

I bought my wife a 1984 Honda VT750 for her 1st bike however the problem we have is that it is difficult to go into 1st gear. Sounds like its grinding when you try to go to 1st gear unless you use a little...

Now you know why the prior owner sold the bike. The problem is a bent shift fork. The engine comes out of the bike then the bottom end gets disassembled to a point where a new shift fork can be installed. The "grinding" is the dogs on the slider gear not fully engaging into first gear.
Your local Honda dealer will charge you $1000 to $1500 to do the repair. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Please rate my answer. Thanks!

Does not shift from 1st to 2nd until high RPM's clunks in reverse. just started.

I would say that your transmission is getting worn out. When the clutches wear they leave extra space in between them and the steel plates, it takes more pressure to engage it and has a tendancy to clunk into gear. This will become much more pronounced in cold weather. Let the vehicle warm up before moving it and it will last longer. It could just be cold weather making this a much more pronounced condition.

92 mitsubishi libero, engine surges downward in cold air, when accelerator pushed engine suffocates. difficult starting cold.check engine light on when warm, runs fine in warm weather or city driving

DIFFICULT STARTING CAR IN COLD.WOULD BE A THERMO - TIME SWITCH.THE THERMO TIME SWITCH CONTROLS THE AMOUNT OF TIME THE COLD START VALVE IS HELD OPEN BY MEASURING THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE AND UTILIZING A TIME FUNCTION TO PREVENT AN OVER RICH CONDITION.THIS COULD BE MOST OF YOUR PROBLEM.BUT SCAN IT TO SEE WHAT PCM CODE YOU ARE GETTING.

Inconsistant transmission problems on 2003 jeep gcl

Many times this is caused by either a sticking electronic shift solenoid in the transmission or the trans fluid and filter need to be replaced, has the trans been serviced, it should have been done at 60,000 miles.
