Does the fuel pump make noise when the key is turned to the ON position for 5 seconds? If not the oil pressure sensor is at fault. That sensor runs the fuel pump when first turned on. If it does run the relay is next to check out

Can you smell gas in the throttle body? If so check the ohm rating to the coils and tell me what the reading you receive

Some auto parts stores and repair shops can check the ignition module too for you. Most likely that is your problem here

Have you checked the distributor coil at all? Sounds like it might just have gone bad and needs to be replaced. Any auto parts store should have one for this car. If you have a test light, you can check to see if you have voltage to the coil when cranking (If you do, then the coil is bad for sure). If replacing the coil doesn't fix the problem, many stores will take parts back as long as they don't look used and that you don't damage it in any way.

Let me know how this works out for you.

Could be a few things wrong here and i will try to give you some clues from a technical aspect but please remember i have never seen this car here in europe .Firstly it could be the crank sensor which is what i would change first because they can do often fail now as its a 97 model it will not have an ignition module like a earlier model vehicle but be done in the ECU with either a coil pack for all the cylinders or most likely a coil pack for every two cylinders ,Now here is where my lack of model knowledge comes in ?does it have a chipped key?? and have you tried the spare key because it wouldnt be the first time i have had the chip fall out of the key or be blanked out by a mobile phone.

Sometimes will not start

You can buy a spark tester at Auto Zone for little money. Put it in between the spark plug and the plug wire. Then have someone turn the engine over and watch to see of there is a spark in the tester. You can do this test for every plug.
If none of the plugs spark, then the problem is no spark and it could be coils or other. Rent a code checker, Auto Zone rents it for free, you only have to leave the cost for a deposit, but get it back when you return it. This should tell you the possible problems.
If some plugs spark and some don't, the plugs may need to be replaced. They should be replaced every 100,000 miles.

I have a 2000 kia sportage that cranks but will not start what might it be?

When en engine won't start, there could be a number of things wrong. An engine requires air, fuel, and spark to start. You need to start by checking for spark. Take out one of the spark plugs and plug it back into the wire. Have somebody else turn the key while you hold the plug up to something metal on the engine, right next to the spark plug hole will be fine. You should see a bright blue spark, if you don't then you probably need to replace the spark plugs. You can do this same thing with any of the spark plugs. If you don't have spark on any of the plugs, get back with me and we'll go from there.

1998 dodge 1500 5.9 will not start, Just installed plugs, cap and wires 2 days ago and it was running great. I ran an errand this morning ran great. But now I can't get it started. I know it has and is...

you can check for spark by plugging in one of your old sparkplugs to one of the spark plug cables and letting the sparkplug lay on the bare metal of the engine. Turn over engine to see if the spark plug is producing a spark. No spark? Check under the distributor cap, take a look at the rotor for damage.

Lincoln Towncar 1999 turns over great. Has a new

check the spark plugs to see if they are getting any spark-pull one of the plugs, reconnect the wire, and hold near something metal on the car while someone turns the engine over-if no spark-it's electrical-maybe just the plugs-maybe something more serious
