Question about GMC Yukon XL

2 Answers

We had a dead battery twice. We would come out and the tail lights were on....even though we hadn't left them on. We replaced the battery. Everything works great. Last night, we found the tail or brake lights on again.

Our 2002 Yukon XL had a dead battery. We found that the dome light had been left on. We charged it up and it was fine. We then came out to the garage and found that the tail or brake lights were on for no apparent reason. We clicked the key on and off it they turned off. Last night, they were on again in the middle of the night. We had just replaced the battery earlier in the day. What would cause this?

Your brake light switch is out of adjustment, or it's going bad. This is draining your battery. The only real issue here is whether the switch is bad or not. If it's not, you can get under the dash and adjust it, tighten it, or whatever it needs(sometimes they just come loose). If you need to change the switch, it should only cost about $10 or so, and would only require a couple of basic tools to replace.

You must have a short in the wiring. Try charging the battery drive the car and take the fuse to the taillights out over night to see if its the wiring between the fuse box and taillights this should narrow the problem. You may have a bad headlight switch or short in wiring, You may need to take your car to local electrical auto repair, these kind of problems can be hard to find and they will need to do tests.

My right brake light doesnt work even though my tail lights do? hazards work fine along with turn signals, why would right light not work when everything else does?

Most of these bulbs have two filaments in side the glass, one for side light, and one for brake light.
Try another KNOWN GOOD bulb, or, swap left to right.

Worst case, its a loom fault or connection.

2005 accent tail lights wont shut off

Pull that fuse or pull tail lamp relay, that should kill the lamps till you figure out the problem? You also have left an right tail lamp fuses, underhood fuse box. I don't know if tail lamp relay is faulty? Another concern, see the bottom wire on left of tail lamp relay, that is a ground controlled by the headlamp/multifunction switch, there could be a problem with that wire circuit or the multifunction switch. At the moment, I'm hoping just faulty relay.

Most likely, you just have a dead battery. Once your battery reaches a critically low point, the electronics simply go nuts... lights won't turn off, etc. until it's absolutely dead. Just try putting a battery charger on the it or use a safe jump starting technique- you should be fine.

Good luck.

The battery continually goes dead, we have replaced the battery twice within the last month and it is in the shop and has went dead on two occasion. What are the problems you are having for the...

For a battery to go dead on you like that there must be something draining the battery while the vehicle is switched off. It could be something like a trunk light which is not switching off or a short across some circuit that does not show up on any light. The first and easiest test is to disconnect the battery negative cable whenever you park the vehicle overnight etc. and see if the battery still runs down.
As a more positive step and if this does not affect the alarm, disconnect the positive lead from the battery and wire a bulb like a tail light bulb, between the terminal and the removed lead. The bulb should light up. Make sure that everything on the vehicle is switched off, the bulb should still be lit. Remove and replace the fuses one by one until the bulb goes out. That is the circuit that is running your battery flat. Check all the components on that circuit until you get the light to stay out and your problem should be fixed.

I've had this problem twice on my Truck and it had the same exact symptoms as you do. It was the headlight switch.
