Two really powerful magnets to clamp the bumper like a vise. License plate just sticks to outside magnet. Never had the nerve to try it myself, I live in a neighborhood where the rig would get robbed.

It is a very nice car you are driving. I can understand the hesitation you have for drilling holes. Stormsure is a good strong adhesive with flexible properties, but I'd suggest sanding a small portion of the bumper first. Adhesives stick best when there is no clearcoat, paint, or primer to reduce bonding.

If it was my car and I was wanting to put a license plate on my car... I would fashion a bracket that clamped over the bumper. It would be a flat bracket that could slide between bumper and hood. It would be padded with a soft rubber, so it did not damage the paint job too much. It would take a considerable amount of time to create something like that, but it would be removable and have very little trace.

A lot of people go to salvage yards and find replacement bumpers for cheap. Whichever bumper is in the worst condition is the one to practice drilling holes and sanding for adhesive. If you decide to go with a permanent mount, practice first. Only when you are sure the job looks factory or better should you do the job to a nice piece.

SOURCE: How to attach a front license plate to 2007 Highlander?

The option is to get a bumper that has the license plate mount on it or buy a mounting kit but you will have to drill holes into the bumper. The clearance below the bumper does not allow you to hang it from below. Wish you had more options. Here in NJ we have the same problems when cars are bought in Pennsylvania!!

How do I mount a front license plate on a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant?

Normally there are screws already holding your old plate in there...(4 corners)
If your car doesn't have plate, usually the front bumper has a license plate bracket on it- normally it is 2 parts : 1 fastened to your car, the other comes off and you put your plate in between them and screw all of them back together.

If your car doesn't have a bracket, then it's prob a new bumper, so you can go buy one and you just drill it on (it'll have instructions if you have to buy 1) Just make sure you center it and it's straight.

Go ahead and use 1 size larger screw. The bumper cover is very resiliant to this. When we put plates on at the dealer, usually we don't even drill a hole. Just screw them in.

decorative [and possibly functional] license plate frames are available after-market from companies like www.jcwhitney.com. a local machine shop or welder could fabricate a 'backing plate' to reinforce the plate.

you need a front license plate bracket. You should see two dimples to carefully drill a hole in the bumper. You may be able to mount the plate directly in these holes w/o the bracket.

try using self tapping screws so you dont have to remove it, you can drill pilot holes if the screw wont go thru easy, and you dont need a nut/bolt
