Question about 2005 Peugeot 405

1 Answer

Front disk brakes locked tight, can't move the car. locked it last night after coming home from work and there was a loud noise from underneath as I walked away. Checked underneath but nothing visible. Later I needed to go out but the car wouldn't budge and that's when I discovered the brakes were locked. Tried moving forwards and backwards but no joy, don't want to push it too hard in case I create more damage....any ideas what may have caused this?

You will need to check each brake caliper for obstruction to the brake rotor. The noise was something getting inside the pads and the rotors such as road debrie of some sort more than likely

these cars are known for power steering pump issues I would start with the known issues on a car first to avoid wasted time and guessing outside of the known issues I would jump to possible brakes issues or other front end steering racks, axle or bearings but the last two are usually a knocking noise ,, brakes if they are shot will cause a loud grind, but so will bad power steering pumps. best of luck hope this helps..

My 2000 dodge neon has a loud noise coming from the front and feels like something is not letting the tire move freely

Safty first,Can you safely jack the frount of the car chalk the rear tires and put the transmission in nuetal. Try to spin the wheel by hand. Then take the wheel off and checked your brakes? It could be be the brake pads or caliber locking up. Or as simple as a rock stuck in there. I hope this helps you.

Very very loud clunking noise from front end...

Before you look at that, check the front end. With the front wheels on the ground, wiggle them from side to side with some force and see if there is any freeplay. If there is it is probably one of the ball joints that has worn. This is quite dangerous and needs to be attended to immediately ut the cost of repairs in not high. Whilst you are checking the front end, make sure that all the mountings are tight. Anything loose can make some very interesting sounds. Another thing you can look at is the u/j on th propshaft. If you get under the car and grab the propshaft, and move it from side to side in the direction it would be going if the car was running and you can hear it clunking or there is any freeplay, that could be your problem, but the noise would be coming more from the middle of the car.

2000 Pontiac Montana Making a Loud Vibrating Noise in Back End

If you have a front wheel drive and not a AWD montana, it could be a bad wheel bearing or a brake shoe that may have broken loose.
Most likely it's going to be a bad rear wheel bearing and it takes less then 2 hours to replace. You can pick up the wheel bearing at Auto Zone or Parts Source for around $170.00 and they have all the instructions for you to do thew job your self if you like.
Tool's you will need: Jack Stand Ratchet with a 1/2 socket and extention Large screw driver 5 pound hammer Lock tight
To check if it is your bearing, try shaking the van from Side to side from the wheel. Listen and feel for any play, the bearing it self is sealed and the bearing my have gone dry.
Good luck and hope this helps. Oh you do not have to remove the brakes to do this job and use the screw driver from the top to split the bearing from the brake housing after you hammer it free from the Axle.
