Question about 1999 Honda Accord

1 Answer

CD takes too long to play or read

I have a 99 Honda Accord Stock radio. My problem is with burned CD's. It will play the CD, but the problem is it takes approx. 5-8 mins for it to 'read' it and start playing?? I have to start with track 1, and then I can hear it 'spinning' forever, until it will finally start playing?? I also am unable to 'reverse' tracks, only 'fwd' through the tracks. Seems if the CD is 'purchased' and not a burned one, then it will read and play it immediatly?? Any suggestions?

OEM cd players are set up to keep burned cds from playing well or at all. Some will work better if you use a better cd brand or quality cd.

I usually use either "Memorex or Sony' brands? Is there a better brand or quality?

Are you using a CD-RW or a CDR. I've found that some can use both and others will only play one type. Most of the ones I have came across will play a CDR. The memorex and sony are both great but sony comes up with different ways to prevent people from burning and playing music with their cd's. not saying they won't work. But sony is more up to date with the music world and tries to prevent losing money.

It may be that the previous owner had an aftermarket stereo in it and removed it when he sold the car. It probably did not get hooked back up correctly if this is the case. (Many Honda radios have 2 electrical connectors on the back of the radio. One usually supplies all the inputs (Power, ground, interior lamp feed, etc.) and the other is the outputs for the speakers.

If I'm for sure I don't think your digit code would be with the vin #. I would check your owners manual or ask a Honda mechanic. Hope this helps!?

There was a recall for the 03-04 Accord radio. It had faulty circuitry that caused the screen to go dim. Check with Honda to see if they'll still honor the recall.

I have no power to the the radio

You will have to chase your power wire back to the fuse panel and/or the battery itself. The burning smell was more then likely the main power cord burning up. Replace it and it should all work well.
