The code is for engine torque signal malfunction.its either a short to voltage or ground in between engine computer and transmission computer. or a bad trans computer [tcm] manuel says check for shorts or bad connections at the connectors from ecm to tcm then states if no wire problems found then try a new tcm and if problem goes away then install new tcm.i know those instructions are lame but it comes from the kia service manuel. there are no tsb or recalls listed for that code. so i would recomend take to dealer because they would have a known good tcm to try.plus if you bought the car new then the 10 year 100,000 mile warranty may still be in effect beings how its a powertrain issue so if less than 100,000 miles and you bought it new it wouldnt hurt to ask them if it might be covered

Does the CEL come on at certain mile markers? Last night my 2002 KIA had its CEL come one as I hit 65000 miles. Car feels to be running perfectly fine. Is it just letting me know it needs its 65000 mile...

Hello! The CEL is the check engine light. When it illuminates it means your Kia has a trouble code. It is not related to a service mileage point.

Take your Rio to an auto parts store and ask for a free code check.
When you find out what trouble code or codes are being generated, send a comment to this solution and I will be more than happy to define and troubleshoot your problem.

Google search for P0705 Rio Error Code and I found this: http://www.kia-forums.com/3g-2006-rio-rio5/39179-error-codes.html Scroll down and the 705 code says: P0705 Transaxle Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input). Yer hubby will have to go to Autozone for a Hayes Rio Shop manual and look to see if its something he can fix. If it's in warranty, take it in. TJ

check the fuel line hose near the fuel regulator for wear as they tend to leak or corrode causing a gas smell inside the car. My 2000 Kia Sportage just had the same problem with the gas smell inside the car.
