Question about 2002 Pontiac Sunfire

02 pontiac sunfire, wont stay running!

Ok we have an 02 pontiac sunfire that was running fine. took it to the store and got back in it, it fired right up then the RPM gauges went nuts the car started rocking and gently just died. I beat on the started and changed the fuel filter. Which was for the most part was pretty clogged. still no change i turned the key enough to hear the fuel pump kick on. Although it doesnt really sound that great i can hear clicks and hummms. the battery's good, no theft light on, has 3/4 of a tank, and wants to start. It just wont do the transition from start to idle. ive read that alot of people have had this problem but i see no solutions. Got any ideas?, thanks Zack

My 02 sunfire died on me all of a sudden and now wont start but will turn over i have checked the fuses and they seem to be ok

This may sound really dumb, but check your fuel... The 00 to 02 Sunfires had a problem with the fuelguage reading inacurately. Sometimes by as much as 1/3 of a tank. If not that then start at the basics, look for fuel getting to the engine, and spark... If the fuel pump is the culprit you can try having a partner hit the fuel tank with a rubber, or NON METAL hammer while your cranking the engine. If the car starts then dont risk it not starting again, get the fuel pump replaced right away.

Ok. my car 97 pontiac sunfire needed a new alternator output cable. guy put a new one on but apparently messed with something else and now its not starting. said the theft light came on and that it isnt...

Tell the guy to call the dealer and ask them how to override the anti theft system or reset it. when you disconnect the battery and lose power it kicks on the anti theft device and it won't get fire.

What is the transmission fluid level for a 02 Sunfire 2.2 Vin4?

sit car on level on hoist etc. remover the 7/16 plug on the side of the transmission with the car running. pour in fluid intil it runs out hold. Replace plug. You are now at the right level. I am assuming this is a automatic transmission but if not the same procedure is OK on the standard but it doesn't need tobe running.

believe it or not, the floormat on my 2000 Sunfire will sometimes slip forward and hold the clutch pedal down against the floor. It truly feels like a mechanical problem, but simply pull the floormat away and the pedal pops right back up!
