If you dont see any timing marks.remove the valve cover and spark plugs,on the number one piston, insert a thin stick until you feel the stik is bumping in to the piston.then slowly rotate the main pulley untill your stik reaches the top.thats top dead center.next, the camshaft, rotate thee camshaft till the cam lobes of the number four intake and exaust rockerarm reaches on top.now check the timing marks.

Just need to know how to install the timing chain on my 2000 nissan sentra gxe 1.8L

I have the factory service manual for your vehicle. It has detailed instructions of everything but has a lot of pages I would need to take snapshots of and I don't think Fixya gives me that much room when I post a solution. If you stiff need the information you are asking for. Email me at csautomotivecars@att.net with your information and I can send you the engine mechanical section of this book in a PDF which has the timing chain removal and install info as well as the timing chain cover removal or anything to do with engine mechanical including torque specs and tightening orders ect. I don't mind sending and don't worry there is no cost either. Just let me know.

How to setup the timing chain for BMW

The sadder thing is you have a 740. align both cam pulley per the book or where you marked them before you took the chain off. They're marked in relation to top dead center of the #1 cylinder and crankshaft.

Didn't do that beforehand.......uh oh. Tow it to dealer, bring one wheelbarrow full of fresh cash. Drive away in about 6 hours.

Timing chain How often does the timing chain need to be replaced???  2002 BMW 745i 118,000 kms

I don't think they have a service interval. They usually last a long time. I would guess 150,000 to 175,000 miles. Or about 250,000 km

Richard, a 93 BMW 325i has timing chain and not a belt. Unless it has been absolutely neglected in terms of oil changes, the chain should last 2-300k miles
