Is the smoke black-ish ?
It could be the fuel filters are dirty..
The oil cap might have the recomended oil on the top.. Or in your manuel..
To be sure - call you local discount auto parts store - and they will tell you..

You tell us Jeep Cherokee (Laredo), in a Grand Cherokee subforum? I confussed.
If this is a Cherokee, review the Repair Manual XJ Cherokee
If this is Grand Cherokee, review ths Repair Manual ZJ-Secc-8W-Wiring-Diagrams (page 7, 9 and 10 for location, details and description). The diagramas can find it in the next pages.
I hope help yuo with this (remember rated this help). Good luck.

Most likely the one by the drivers kick panel.Pull each one and look at it real good,or to be sure, use a test light you can purchase at the parts store.Clip the clip to a good ground, and the other end is a probe, touch the probe to all the fuses, both sides of the fuses, with the key on,and the lights on.The fuse that only one side lights the test light,is blown.
