How do I remove the fan from 1997 dodge dakota pick up not seeing how to remove. Should the shroud come off with fan? Where are bolts or fasteners holding the fan in place?

Its been a while since I've messed with a Dodge...but the fan shroud should be two pieces (upper & lower). This way you can remove the upper section of the shroud.
Then you'll need a special sized wrench to get that "fan nut" loose.
Not sure if this model is the one that the fan nut is a left hand thread or not...but leverage can sometimes be obtained by using a prybar across the fan clutch bolts.

Hope this helps a little...

Remove clutch fan dodge dakpta 4.7

This one does require a tool to loosen the fan clutch from the water pump shaft. Part of the tool holds the pulley and the other part is spanner wrench used to loosen the clutch. An important note on these fan clutches: Once you have the fan clutch off DO NOT let it lay with the rear side of the fan pointing downward as the silicone fluid that provides the "clutch" action can drain into the bearing and cause the clutch not to work. Once you have the clutch off just lean the fan and clutch against something so it is standing upright just as it is when it's bolted to the water pump until you are ready to put it back on. Hope this helps you out a bit!

Replacing water pump on 5.2L 99 dodge dakota water pump pully is broke so i cant take off the shaft that holds the fan and fan clutch im just looking for sugestions

somehow you need to grab a part of the pulley to prevent it from turning.i dont know if you were aware that the fan and clutch do not unbolt byt unscrew like a nut the directin to remove is on the fan shroud. if you cant get the fan off take the pump off with the fan on it, it can be done just you will have to remove shroud with it.then wrestle with it on the bench

How do i hold the fan nut on the water pump to remove the fan and replace the waterpump. on 1997 dodge dakota. 6cyl. thanx Tony.

the fan nut is part of the fan,you need to unscrew the nut from the water pump to remove fan, this is harder to do if you don't have the special tools to do this job Tony,

I am trying to replace water pump and need to remove the clutch fan first. How do I do this? It is a manual V6 1999 Dodge Dakota truck.

Before removing the belt turn the nut counter clockwise. You may have hit the wrench with a hammer to loosen it. Because of limited space, the fan and shroud have to be removed at the same time. Do not lay the fan clutch in a horizontal position, stand it up.

How to replace a water pump on a 1999 dodge

so i just replaced my water pump today on the same car, mine is a 5.9 magnum. I drained the whole system before i started working on it, next you have to take off the fan, if you look on the inner side of the fan there is a big nut there, in order to loosen that i put to bolts into the holes on the water pump pulley and used a thin screwdriver for leverage, while putting pressure on that, i loosened the nut, be careful not to slip cuz those fan blades are dangerous. but once you have removed that nut from the pulley take out the four bolts holding on the housing, pull the fan and the housing out at the same time. next remove the belt, after that is done, disconnect the hoses from the water pump, there are three, one on each side and one on top. there are a total of eight bolts holding the pump on, keep track of them because they are different sizes. But that is how i removed mine. It was all farely simple i am a girl and i managed to do it so i think you should be fine. Hope it works for you becuase it didnt work for me, i now think that it is my head leaking, if you know anything about that let me know.

The fan blade is loose & wobbles on the shaft on my dodge dakota

Fix it now or forever pick up the pieces...You have one of two problems possibly both...The fan clutch that the fan is bolted to has a bad bearing. replace it Or, the bearing in the water pump has failed. again...replace it. If fan clutch failed carefully check pump ...shaft bearing can be damaged by wobbling assembly. Seriously...don't ignore this if fan gets loose,it will damage far more than the problem you now have!!!
good luck!!

How to replace water pump on 1995 dodge dakato 5.2 liter V8

When I do those I find it's easier to get some of the stuff out of the way. Fan shroud, Alternator, AC compressor(don't remove AC hoses just swing it over to the side) and the AC/alternator mount bracket. If you don't have the special hose clamp plyers they are worth buying. (those clamps are difficult with regular plyers) The fan clutch has a special wrench which is thinner. When you start the job break loose the fan clutch before you remove the belt. It keeps tension on the pulley. The nut is normal threading and usually comes loose with a sharp rap of the hammer on the fan clutch wrench.
Here is an illustration of the water pump bolts. I hope this helps you out. let me know how it goes.6f7219e.gif
