Question about Lincoln LS

1 Answer

2003 lincoln ls v8-every time the car is started-that is, cold start- the engine/valves knock for about 3 sec. then is ok. I've used synthetic oil, had numerous treatments, and I change the oil (when I use reg oil) every 3-4 thousand miles. The car doesnt blow smoke of any kind, but I'm sure that if this keeps up, it'll be blowin blue soon enough. I'm the original owner, and it has 59,575 miles on it. This has been happening for about 2 years now, and the mileage when this started was about 45,000. Has this engine been a source of tbl for ford? Do you know what is causing this to happen? I had a mechanic check it out, and said that the oil wasn't keeping the heads lubed enough, and is making the valves tap...I figured that out on my own! The question is: how can this be corrected? Thank you for your help, Ed

I think you oil pump is losing prime. The is a check valve that is to hold the pressure so you don' get a dry start. I had a Town Car did the same thing and had to change the oil pump. Darrell S

How do I determine if my 2003 Lincoln LS has a rain sensor using the vin number

A few reasons , low on oil , faulty oil pump relief valve , faulty sender unit. Remove the oil sender unit fit a gauge, start engine and check oil pressure if ok replace sender unit . If still low check oil pump pick up strainer and relief valve spring.

When it's cold out (sub 15 deg F) and I start the car, there are about 5 loud knocks from the engine compartment. Changed tensioner and belt, that didn't fix the problem. Ideas?

These can be really hard to find. Try having someone else crank it while you listen with hood open. Use hose if needed to help find where the sound is coming from.

What is the best type of engine oil for a lincoln LS

The best oil is the Synthetic type oil that one can get through Walmart or an auto parts store.
However, if the car hasn't been using synthetic type, it's a good idea to creep up on it using a mixture of synthetic and regular oil.

However, I have a couple of Cadillac Devilles that use regular oil and I've never had any problems with it.

I wouldn't use synthetic unless there is a sticker that specifically says to use it under the hood.

Most American cars don't need synthetic.

Some Porsches, BMW's, Mercedes Benz and higher end performance cars recommend synthetic for use all of the time.
Good luck on choosing the best grade of oil for your Lincoln LS.

Lincoln ls V8 2003 engine temperture in the middle ?

You shouldn't hear the fan too much while in the car. It won't start to run until certain conditions are meet. Try leaving the A/C Off or put it on Auto and hit the A/C buttom off. I don't know how hot, the ambient air temp is, where you are.
Your not talking HAVC Blower inside are you?
I have a 2004 V8 and the radiator fan is quiet

Oil in 2000 lincoln ls is 4 quarts low after only 3 months, now there is knocking in engine.

Hi!!

This noise can mean bad news, but, let's not panic and try something.

Some times when oil level gets too low, the lifters discharge and valves start making a quick knocking noise that doesn't quit even if the oil level is normal.
and increases when you step on the gas.

This happened to my friend's car and fix the problem adding a Valve Quiet oil additive, in a couple of minutes the noise was gone.

If this is not the noise you are hearing, take it to a mechanic shop for repair, preferably on a Tow Truck, because the more you run the engine, the more damage you can cause to it.

Good Luck

Problems with my 2000 Lincoln Ls V8.......Engine Knocking?

spark knock is usally poor fuel.
try a tank or two of premium with cleaning additives.
if that works when try the next lower grade untill the knock returns.
then just use the lowwest grade that did not knock.

I have a 1994 Subaru Legacy and It has started making a "knocking sound". Cked the oil, it was OK

knocks when cold ( Start ), then sort of diminish or disappears when warming up ???

Knocking goes faster when accelerating when cold ???

If Yes, then Piston knocking on the wall of the cylinder . The sound disappears as the engine is getting warmer it dilates and the gap gets smaller.

If this just started,

1. Put quality oil & filter ( Mobile Full Synthetic Oil & Mobile Oil Filter or Purolator )

2. Do not put cleaning agents mixed with oil.

3. Personaly i've put "Restore" Engine Restorer & Lubricant in cars with more then 200 000 km and the results are amazing. But only "Restore". My Volvo is at close to 300 000 km, and it runs great. It's not a cleaning agent.

By experience if the knocking just started you can put an easy extra 100 000 km on the engine before a rebuilt. Quality Oil & let the engine warm up ( 3 mins ).

I have 1997 chevy Z-71 sometimes on startup the engine makes a knocking sound for about 3 seconds and goes away. I dont know if I have a major problem or not can you help?

I think it is normal for these vehicles. My '97 Tahoe did it also and I'd heard it was normal and not to be worried about. Kind of sucks but I had 150,000 miles on mine and it was fine.

Good luck.

Lincoln LS 2003

my etc light came on and i took to the lincoln dealer it was my fuel system and it had to be replaced for the tune of 800 dollars. after that it ran fine for about a month then i hit a hump then it went into etc mode again. i then took it back to lincoln they did not see a code or that it even went into etc mode because i cut the car off and turned it back on it ran fine but once you cut it off it resets itself it did this about 10 more times and never came back on again knock on woods no problems but it started missing and the check engine light came on it was a misfire in cylinder 4 and it replaced the spark plug myself and it has ran find ever since. I was told anytime the etc light comes on it due to fuel or transmission
