Question about 2001 Ford Escort ZX2

1 Answer

Engine leaking oil on serpintine belt and can not figure out where it is coming from. Me, a mechanic, and my father in law all looked at it and cant not figure it out. All the seals look fine and i dont see a leak on any of the motor seal points and its only that side. The only thing I can think it is is the engine is build to much pressure and spitting oil out the seals. I have a K&N performane intake and a breather over the air line on the top of the engine and ever since I put it I have had troubles but not to thing extreme. It had a little ruff of a ldle for a while and the leak started out slow. It is for sure enigne oil being thats the only fluid that is missing every time I check the fuilds after a leak. Also at a low rpms under 3k I would guess there isnt a problem. Plase help im am out of ideas and thins is giving me a headache lol.

Camshaft seal? A friend of mine had a truck and it sounds like the same problem. He ended up selling it. They fixed it and drive by his house all of the time.

2002 sunfire ecotec blowing out oil from front of engine

The front of engine is usually where the serpentine belt is located. The side of the engine toward the front of vehicle is different. I'm not trying to split hairs, Just trying to understand? Is it coming out in the area of the belt?
When you had it on the ramps, was the engine running? One thought is too much crankcase pressure?
There is, the oil filter could leak, oil pan gasket, head gasket. Is there oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil? It's tough to find a leak if it isn't leaking when you check it.

Replace serpentine belt

TO REPLACE DRIVE BELT FOR THE 2.0L AND 2.2L ENGINES ROTATE TENSIONER CLOCKWISE USING A WRENCH OR SOCKET USE 19M WRENCH FOR 2.0L ENGINE. USE SIZE 15M WRENCH ON THE 2.2L ENGINE. AND THE 3.1 ENGINE USE A 1/2 INCH BREAKER BAR. IF DRIVE BELT HARD TO GET TO YOU HAVE TO SUPPORT ENGINE WEIGHT USE A HOIST OR FLOOR JACK UNDER THE OIL PAN WITH PIECE WOOD ON JACK SADDLE.SLIGHTLY RAISE FLOOR JACK A LITTLE TO SUPPORT ENGINE TO REMOVE TOP ENGINE MOUNT TO REMOVE DRIVE BELT.DONT DONT OVER JACK ENGINE DAMAGE OIL PAN AND OIL PUMP.JUST RAISE FLOOR JACK SLIGHTLY JUST ENOUGH TO HOLD ENGINE WHEN YOU REMOVE TOP ENGINE MOUNT.

Serpintine belt was replace as was the idler arm. alternator is charging, and noise difference when ac is on or off. But noise is very loud when engine is running. When serpintine belt is off there is no...

With the belt off, try to spin each pulley that spins and see if there is any roughness or flat spots on the bearings that you can detect with your hands.

Usually, the bearings on Alternators or idler pulleys go bad before the a/c because the a/c should have oil in it. However, it could be any of the pulleys that the belt spins on.

It can be a process of elimination of changing parts until the sound goes away, if you can't detect it under free spinning conditions with the belt off.

Alternator

First you need to remove the serpintine belt or alternator belt. If it is a serpintine locate the tension pully(the one that doesn't look like it does anything) place a wrench over the pully bolt and pull while removing the belt. Most generaly all alternators have two bolts holding them in. Remove both bolts. and remove alternator on some vehicles you need to remove the top engine mounts to remove the acctual alternator. make sure you if you do this you put a jack under the bngine block. NEVER ON THE OIL PAN. After that simply remove the old alternator and replace it with the new one reinstall the serpintine belt as instructed on either the underside of your hood or where the hood latch is.

Serpintine belt does not move but car starts. i can start belt if i move by hand when car is on.

If the belt does not move, figure out why, check every pulley and the tensioner. Do not touch the belt while the engine is running.

Leaking engine coolant from bottom of engine front passenger side

Probably a water pump seal unfortunately. Pressurize the system, with the engine off, use a mirror to look under the water pump pulley to see if any fluid is dripping from the water pump seal weep hole.
If it is, change the water pump.
Good luck, let me know.

1998 AUD1 A6 ENGINE OIL LEAK the engine is leakking so can these effect the gear box?

As long as it is engine oil, you should be OK. Are you using synthetic Oil? Sometimes switching over to synthetic oil will cause very minor leaks to become more active. If so, you may be better off switching to regular oil, and changing more frequently. Also be sure to use the highest viscosity oil designed for you model.

Be sure that you can figure out where exactly the leak is coming from. Upper engine/ lower engine?

How much oil are you losing?

Your gearbox should be OK.

Regards

Brian
