Does it knock hard or just rattle loud,? A lot of cars are noisy till the oil gets pumped up top. I hate to see people floor when they first start up, very bad idea, no oil up top, anyway, your oil weight goes by the outside temperature. If you live in Florida, it gets hot, I use 10w-40 year round, up north is a different story, 5w-30 in the winter would be fine, but summer time you could go heavier no problem. My brother uses straight 30 weight with a bottle of Marvel mystery oil as the 5th qt. The stuff works great. It cleans the inside of your engine like you wouldn't believe. He is one of these guys that takes the oil filters apart to check them out. Hope this helps.

When should i change the timing belt on my grand vitara there is 46000 kl/m on the clock, and also how often should i change the engine oil.

For most all timing belts, the 100,000 mile marker is when the belt should be changed. The belts are designed to work for 100+ thousand miles, but recommended checking/changing is at 100K miles.

My '06 Grand Vitara is about to roll over 100,000 miles. What maintenance should I be looking to have performed? I plan to have 4 new tires put on, have an alignment done by the dealership, transmission...

Yes, also have all the hoses and belt/belts checked. Vacumm lines and EGR. Check the thermostat, flush and fill the radiator, and have the chassis lubed and checked, springs, shocks, struts. Also test the alternator and battery. Finally change the spark plugs, check the wires, and have the timing belt checked. Its usually a good idea to replace the timing belt after 100,000 as they tend to fail.
