Many newer vehicles use from 3,.5 quarts to four quarts. Large vehicles use five or even six.
No engine will fail if its one or one and a half quarts low.
Therefore when working on an engine that you don't know the oil capacity, put in 3.5 quarts, start the engine so the filter fills up, then turn it off, let sit a few minutes so what is up in the block drains back, then check the dipstick. Continue adding oil till the reading is at the full line. Write down the total amount you used and then next time you can just add that amount.
Sounds complicated but it's faster and more accurate than most books.

Ok, that in your opinion was an unhelpful answer? I'd appreciate it if you responded and explained how that is so....The answer I gave you will definitely NOT harm your engine, and will give you an exact amount to add during an oil change in the future. Exactly how is that unhelpful???

Didn't notice the don't have a dipstick part. Go to any scrapyard and get one. Most it will cost you is $5.00!!! Without the stick, you have no way to monitor what is in there!!! 3.5 quarts is safe, but 5 quarts is definitely too much!!! (slightly underfull is not harmful...overfull will cause the crankshaft to foam up the oil and can cause engine damage)

Most vehicles when changing oil uses 5 quarts of oil. I believe that is any vehicle even trucks after you have drained the old oil out of it and is changing your oil. It should last a good 5 months but it is best to change your oil about every 3 months. that is what we do around here and we have 4 vehicles

Overfilled oil in 1998 Mitsubishi Mirage

if this is engine oil just undo the engine drain plug you will obviously need a large flatish tray to catch it in ,if its the tranny same thing but let it all out and start again with fresh fluid check manual for quantity, the consequences can be quite damaging to the engine if driven and more so for the tranny so do before drivig again

How do i read the tranny dip stick so u dont over fill it is wont shift as all if the motor is cold but if u let it worm up it will shift some what what would causes it to do that on a 1998 Toyota Sienna

you need to run the engine to allow the trans fluid to get hot the dip stick will have 2 marks the correct level is for the fluid to be between marks, also sniff the oil on stick and if smells 'burnt' change the trans fluid dont just top it up , the movement problem could be to do with the trans fluid but may be more involved but worth doing the fluid first

How many quarts of oil do I need to put in Toyota celica 1983, it's real low

Your 1983 Toyota Celica takes 4 quarts with new filter,Since your just adding,it depends what is showing on the dip stick, you say it's real low, which it probaly will take a least a quart, then add that and wait a few minutes to get to oil pan, then check dip stick twice and if still low, open another quart and add a fourth and check, add more if needed, then after you have drove, park, let sit, then check. If you add to much, there's a drain plug at oil pan underneath,You can go to Autozone and buy oil and ask if they will add, they will do it for free.

Where do I put transmission oil in 88 toy camry

If its a Automatic i presume it is, Locate the Dip Stick for your Transmission.Once located pull the Dip Stick Out wipe it off ,And toward and on the Bottom of the Dip Stick you need to Read it. It will shopw a mark (FULL) and it may tell you to Check when its Hot.If so go on a Short Drive come Back Pull the Dip stick out and if its below the Full mark ,Just buy a Funnel to fit the Small Hole the Dip Stick was It and Add a Little at a Time until it Reaches the Full Mark.(DONT OVER FILL IT) and Check to Make sure you put the Right Type of Fluid in. Your Local Parts Store Should beable to Guide you to The Correct Fluid: From The WYOCWBOY
