When I switch the wiper on and off it does stops. Do you think its a contact issue underneath my stalk? do you know steps on how I can disassemble my stalk?

The switch could have a short in it, most llikely you will need to replace the switch.

The switch is inside the and part of the stalk and is is not seviceable, you would need to buy a new stalk.

hi there
this is pretty typicalof rear wipers check fuse first to make sure it is good if that doesnt work it is probably the motor which goes out and you can pick one up at your local auto parts store hope this will help you and have a great day

Have replaced the wiper motor and the wiper switch on my 1998 ford explorer and wipers still only work on high what next?

Try the multifunction switch (the turn signal switch on the left hand side of the steering wheel). This is a$65.00 item at the parts store or ~$45.00 on line. It takes ~ 20 minutes to change. Torx screws hold the unit in place. Phillips screws secure the cover.

sounds like the dimmer switch has kicked the bucket. Its the lever that activates the turn signals. do your headlights flicker on and off randomly when their turned on?

My main windshield wipers stopped working. the rears still work and my turn signals too. basically just the front and fluid and about 4 months after they stopped i randomly hit the switch and they went on...

will try to help. the motor for the wipers may be bad. or it can also be a bad wiper motor switch, remember the tap every once in a while thing and they worked? well that says one or the others bad, with you tapping that switch on every once in awhile and they worked points towards the wiper motor itself. it's not very complicated to replace, but let me suggest that unless you are,ask your local mechanic to give an estimate for replacement of wiper motor.hope this helps and as always, thank you for choosing fixya.com if you would like to hear another solution, please repost and we'll be happy to help!

THE WINDSHEILD WIPERS ON MY 2002 EXPLORER WILL NOT SHUT OFF.

if you havent fixed this yet, the only (2) solutions I can think of would be #1. a bad wiper motor relay, or the more likely of the 2, a worn/bad multi-function switch (common on most Fords with a M/Func. switch, i.e. turn signal/wiper control lever).
