The big nut on the clutch unscrews from the pump. You'll need to get a chain strap wrench to hold the pulley or someway to hold the pulley, and a large wrench to loosen the nut.

Cannot break the fan loose from the water pump. Is it left hand thread. Is there a speciail tool to hold the fan to break it loose.

The best tool for this is a ratcheting fan clutch tool, although the ones you can rent from Auto Zone work by hitting the wrench with a BFH ( big hammer) possibly quite a few times.
Just changed the water pump on my 1998 Dodge Dakota with a similar setup and had to whack it about twenty times to break it loose being careful not to break anything plastic.
Standing in front of the vehicle turn the nut towards the passengers side of the car and once broken loose, carefully spin the fan clutch off being careful to not damage the radiator.

How to change a water pump?

You will need to remove the upper fan shroud, remove the fan clutch that is threaded onto the water pump it is easiest to get the tool for this or you can use a bar between two of the pulley bolts and use a cresent wrench on the big nut. After you remove the fan clutch there is the small hoses on the top of the water pump and the lower hose on the bottom of pump. Then there are only four bolts holding the pump to the motor. Reinstall in reverse order. Let me know if you need more help.

Fan removell

The big nut is part of the fan it threads on to the water pump. To remove loosen two of the pulley bolts put a pry bar between these two bolts the use a large wrench on the big nut to thread the fan off the pump. righty tighty, lefty loosey. They also make tools for removing the fan clutch.

1997 jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2 liter V8. Water Pump. When I remove the big nut to remove the clutch fan. Will that lose the pulley that's attached to the water pump? I don't see bolts holding pulley wheel to the water pump? Is it pressed on or will it become loose when I remove clutch fan nut?

The big nut spins counter clock wise. you have to put your pulley bolts back on and make sure they are tight. leave belt on so that you have more resistance to pull against when tring to loosen the nut put a bar inbetween the pulley bolts so it won't slip off and then loosen that big nut looking thing and you should have it from there. to the same thing in reverse order to install it
