Question about 1994 Volvo 850

1 Answer

My son's 1995 volvo sedan tries to overheat on occassion. Doesn't do it all the time. He believes the thermostat is working ok. He had the coolant ratio tested in it and results showed more coolant than water. Any suggestions?

Could be his water pump going out or the thermostat sticking. Most likely the thermostat sticking

I have Toyota corolla 1995 dx 1.8 l . overheat please give me an advise

try replacing the thermostat. it's easy and cheap to fix. I find it hard to believe the water evaporates after 5 minutes though. you may have a bad freeze plug and your loosing all your water or a blown head gasket. check the oil and make sure it isn't milky looking or obvious signs of water in the oil

I HAVE 95 CADILLAC SEDAN DEVILLE. IT SPUTTERED AND SHUT DOWN TODAY AND WHEN I LIFTED THE HOOD, I NOTICED A BROWN SUBSTANCE INSIDE THE RADIATOR , AND IN OVERFLOW. THE CAR WOULD TURN OVER , BUT WOULD NOT...

The brown substance in the radiator and overflow indicates 2 things:

1. Rust in the coolant indicating the system needs to be flushed

2. Stuck thermostat making the rust back up into the overflow

If the car didn't overheat when it shut down, the problem is probably a fuel related issue. If there was an overheat when it shut down, you will need to identify whether you have a bad water pump or thermostat.

Overheating & won't start. Oil & coolant OK.

Sounds like your thermostat is stuck in the closed position. I'd replace the thermostat and flush & refill the coolant.

When idling saturn ls 4dr sedan wants to overheat

Sounds like either you are low on coolant or the cooling fan isn't working. With engine cool remove radiator cap and check coolant level, top off if necessary. If full start engine and turn on A/C full blast, full cold the cooling fan should come on almost instantly, unless there are two individual cooling fans in which case only one may turn on. If no fans turn on check all fuses whether related to fan or not. If all fuses fine try swapping relays around, they are usually all the same size/style. If fan still doen't work you have either an open positve or ground side of the circuit, Which will require wiring schematics and a multimeter. If coolant full and fan/s turn on and engine still overheats you'll need a new thermostat installed.

Location of thermostat and replacement

Finding the thermostat is easy. Just follow the top radiator hose back to the engine.
The question I have is how to get to the bottom screw of the thermostat housing.

Any Sugustions anyone?
