Question about Ford F-250
You need a Manifold gauge set. Autozone or Oreillys may have a loaner for a deposit. The first thing to check for is the Low and High pressure sides of the A/C. Next would be the black oblong tank, a freeze switch on some systems is in addition to the pressure switch. If the Compressor is making noise you may need oil. If so, there are now different weights specific to the brand of Vehicle.
Autozone and others have pressure switches AND their specifications. You can tell by the pressure readings when the switches cut out. Then compare with specs.
The ideal amount of pressure is midway between the Low and High pressure sides. This will keep the compressor running the longest and the system cooling the best. When testing open the windows, observe the Freon lines- if they sweat or freeze. When the hood is open you are venting a lot of heat from the engine. The pressure in the A/C will rise from this heat.
If you think your pressure is OK and want 1 part to try, I would go with a low pressure switch.
