Question about 1995 Buick Regal

1 Answer

90's buick (unsure of model) clicking noise

So there is a real nasty clacking noise coming from around the tensioner, when you spin the altenator(and move the belt) it feels like there is something blocking it(sticking out into a rotating parts way) has anyone had a problem like this before?

Have you checked to see if the tensioner pully bearing has frozen up? They have to be changed every now and then. The bearings can be replaced without replaceing the whole tensioner pully and spring assembly.

I have a 1989 ford f250 v8 i have changed altenator,tensioner,and new belt. I still have a chirping noise. Now what do i check?

Could be that the idler pulley bearing has failed (just replace the idler pulley) but first take a real close look all around the pulley looking for a very small piece of an old belt that has been burned onto it. If anything is on the pulley just clean it real good and the chirping may stop (real cheal fix).

You will have to remove the belt, altenator and the tensioner bracket. The piece of plastic will be in its bore I've never had one fall in the engine.

I need a diagram for installing a serpentine belt on a 94 buick skylark Or I need to know where the tensioner is located and once i release the tensioner will i be able to slip the belt around the pulley...

the tensioner will be one of the idler pulleys ,abd then you fit the new belt but make sure you draw a picture of the belt run before remove it

It sounded like the bearings in the altenator were going out so replaced the altenator and it is still making the noise

you need a stheascope or a long metal object, like a screwdriver with at least a 24" shaft

remove the accessory belt
pick a pulley and spin it by hand
while spinning the pully in question use your tool and place it on the part of the pulley you are spinning

you'll know which pulley is the problem becuase you will get a growl from the bearing

most common suspect would be the accessory belt tensioner

Problem with Altenator belts Etude

the problem is not the altenator. you should have a idler pully and a self adjusting idler tensioner. if thes e go bad the bearings tend to seize up and break belts i would check these first chance you get the tensioner should be spring like and be hard to move back and forth the pulley part of it should spin freely with out makeing a noise. please rate this
