Question about 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

My speedometer is nonfunctional, and the tach intermittenly fails. A mechanic has hooked his gages into the sensors ans tells me the sensors are fine. There is no indication of any electrical failure--ie; short or poor connection. Recommended replacing the instrument cluster

Personally if it's just an intermittent thing and you can live with it, because I am sure that a new instrument cluster is not cheap, I would just leave it be. That's just my suggestion!

I didn't see an s15 in that model year, in my database?
If the speedometer works but the tach doesn't, I think something is wrong with instrument cluster?
GM has had a problem with fuel gage sending units. The sending units are not hard wired to instrument cluster, they send signal to pcm, the pcm sends serial data to instrument cluster, telling the cluster the gage settings.
It may be possible to use different size resistors in place of the fuel level sending unit, to see if fuel gage reacts properly to different resistors, if the gage reacts properly, then I think the problem is the fuel gage sending unit.

My speed gage is moving wierd it is getting stuck sometimes. Works fine at times then sometimes I will go about 50 and it will get **** and when I stop it is **** on 50, the rpm gage is also doing it

your vehicle has sensors located in the wheel hub that provide data to the speedometer/tach, possibly a bad sensor or if youve had brakes done recently, they may have been compromised during repairs---it is easy to test for with the corrrect diagnostic experts

The gas gage,speedometer,r.p.m.tach and volt meter want work. i checked all fuses. what else could it be?

dissconnect the battery cables, leave off for about 5 min. this will reset your computer when you hook them back up. if things start to work, you may-be having computer problems. go to auto zone and have them do a check on it for you. it's free

1994 honda prelude vtec speedometer tach problem

Possible speed sensor. I know the speed sensors are a problem with hondas. A new speed sensor is about $200 and can be easily replaced. It bolts to the top of the transmission on the firewall side. Do NOT buy an e-bay one. They are only about $30 but are junk

Speedometer and tach stopped working 92 honda accord

Since the Speedo and Tach both quit working and they use separate sending units, I would be looking for a common electrical plug they share under the dash behind the speedo. When you find said plug check to make sure that it is plugged in securely. if it seems to be plugged in well unplug it and then replug it just in case the contacts were getting a bit dirty or corroded.

Chevy cavalier 2005 speedometer stuck not working

That Cluster will work But, You will have to get an Installation kit if you want the Tach to work. Everything else will hook up the Same. You have a Distribution Box (Fuse Box) Under the Hood on the Drivers Side, There is a Fuse in it for the Speedo. Inside the Cover to the Box is the Fuse Diagram or in the Back of the Owners Manual.

Tach and speedometer work intermittenly and sometimes trans doesnt shift until 4500 rpm. vw cabrio 1999 automatic.

Good question! My Cabrio's odometer works only when the outside temps are really cold... that means about freezing temp. My VW repair shop guru guy says that the Cabriolet is notorious for this failing. Since the odometer is driven through a small gearbox via the speedo cable, I suspect the odometer "transmission" is mostly kaput. The tach is also mechanically driven so it also may have a semi-functional cable. The only way to really know is to pull the cable and check it for damage. As far as the trans goes have you tested it for codes?
