Some manual transmission cars have a switch on the clucth pedal so the engine won't start unless the clutch is pressed in. You could have a defective switch.

After the engine is spinning over, fuel is admitted to the cylinders and is ignited, and the engine starts to run under its own power. If a vehicle "turns over" but won't start, there is probably NOTHING WRONG with your starter, battery, or alternator.

Car stalls out when you push in the clutch

When you push in the clutch you are pushing the crank shaft forward in the main bearings but the action of the throw out bearing for the clutch pushing the fingers of the clutch pressure forward. For the engine to stall under this condition I would be checking the throw out bearing for seizure and acting as a brake on the pressure plate. Some clutch systems are part of the engine start system where you have to depress the clutch to start the engine (safety device) This may be faulty and shutting the engine down.

Metal on metal noise

most likely the throw out bearing is at fault. when you push the clutch a spinning bearing pushes the clutch plate away from the flywheel disengaging trans so you can switch gears. the transmission has to come away from the engine to fix it.

My '95 Tercel won't start

clutches don't pump up unless there is air in the system. Check the slave cylinder for oil leaking. There may be a switch that has to be in the correct position to allow the system to start and unless you can activate it when the clutch is disengaged it will ne difficult to start. I would also check the battery with a load test as bad cells will not give a high enough crank speed to fire the engine

Hi the problem you are having is going to be with the clutch plate you will find that it has worn down to the metal pins and has no actual clutch plate left.

What is happening is that when you put the car in gear and let the clutch up the clutch is slipping on the plate instead of gripping and this is why you loose the drive.

To solve this problem your going to need to buy a clutch repair kit if your doing the sork yourself or get someone else to fit the parts for you.

Your going to need to replace the following:
pressure plate
clutch plate
thrust bearing.

dont try driving the car as it is as you could cause damage to the gearbox if the clutch plate and pressure plate shatter so its not worth trying to move the car until you have had the clutch fixed.

getting the clutch replaced involves removing the gearbox from the engine and this is best done with the car on ramps as the gear box will come out from the bottom of the car so it needs to be high enough off the floor to allow you to remove the gear box, its not a hard job if you have done it before but it is heavy work and if you have not done this before then your best getting someone else to replace the clutch for you.

getting the clutch changed will solve your problem and get you up and running again in no time.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

My 1987 toyota pick up 5 spd will not start when you push in the clutch but it will as soon as you push the clutch start cancel button i beleive the clutch pedal switch is to blame it is not completeing...

There will be a switch on the clutch pedal bar under the dash somewhere. When you push in the clutch the pedal touches the switch and completes the circuit. It may be out of adjustment, or just worn out. You can either replace it, or remove it, and pigtail the wires together. Although, if you do that, be aware that it will start in gear, clutch out, and could be a safety issue.

I own a toyota 4x4 pick-up 1989 it was stored outside without running for 2 years ,now my pedal clutch stay stick. How can i fix it? Also how can i put oil in the gearbox(transmission)?

I assume the clutch won't release. Put the trans in neutral and start the engine. Let it get warm. MAKE SURE THERE IS ROOM TO DRIVE THE TRUCK, WITH NOTHING IN THE WAY. Stop the engine, put the trans in first, and start the engine. The truck will jump forward when the engine starts. Get it on a clear road, push the clutch pedal in, and hit the gas. It should come loose in one or two tries.

Power drain while depressing the clutch

it should have a clutch safty switch, what it does is if you try to start the car without the clutch pushed in it wont start. that switch could be trying to ground its self out. check where the clutch pedal is and you should see a form of push switch attached to it, check for exposed wiring on etc
