Do me a favor, when that check engine light comes on take the car to an auto parts store and have the code read and post what they tell you, here. Not sure exactly what they told you but we need more info. Also, are you noticing anything with how the car handles?

-P0441: EVAP System Incorrect Purge Flow Detected

    Trouble Code Conditions:

ECT sensor less than 86 degrees F at startup, vehicle driven at 55-60 mph for 2-3 minutes, and the PCM detected the EVAP canister pressure did not decrease during purge conditions, or it remained too low during purge cutoff conditions. The vapor pressure sensor, VSV for the canister closed valve (CCV) and the VSV for the vapor-switching valve are used to detect EVAP system faults. The PCM closes the CCV and opens the VSV for vapor switching valve to cause an increase in vacuum in the EVAP system. Once the vacuum reaches a certain point, the PCM closes the VSV to test system operation.

    Possible Causes:

    • Charcoal canister is clogged, loaded with fuel or with moisture

    • Fuel tank over-fill check valve cracked or damaged

    • Fuel tank seal leaking, fuel tank cracked or damaged/leaking

    • Fuel vapor hoses/tubes blocked or restricted, or fuel vapor control valve tube or fuel vapor vent valve assembly blocked

    • Vacuum hose or tubing cracked, damaged or disconnected

    • Vapor pressure sensor is damaged or has failed

    • VSV circuit for the canister purge, VSV for the CCV or the VSV for the pressure switching valve is open or shorted to ground

    • VSV for the vapor pressure sensor circuit is open or shorted to ground, or the vapor pressure sensor is damaged or has failed

P0446: Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Malfunction

    Trouble Code Conditions:

When VSV for vapor pressure sensor is OFF, ECM judges that there is no continuity between vapor pressure sensor and charcoal canister (2 trip detection logic)

When VSV for vapor pressure sensor is ON, ECM judges that there is no continuity between vapor pressure sensor and fuel tank (2 trip detection logic)

After the purge cut off operates, the pressure in the charcoal canister is maintained at atmospheric pressure (2 trip detection logic)

    Possible Causes:

    • Open or short in VSV circuit for vapor pressure sensor

    • VSV for vapor pressure sensor

    • Open or short in vapor pressure sensor circuit

    • Vapor pressure sensor

    • Open or short in VSV circuit for EVAP

    • VSV for EVAP

    • Vacuum hose cracks, hole, blocked, damaged or disconnected ((1), (4), (5), (6) (7) and (8) in fig. 1)

    • Charcoal canister cracks, hole or damaged

    • Fuel tank over fill check valve cracked or damaged

Have a 99 suburban that runs great with just under 100K, been blowing white smoke. Shop originally quoted head gasket. Upon starting repairs they decided exhaust manifold gasket instead. They replaced the...

I think that you should go to an accredited specialist shop that works on your make vehicle as I think that you may be led up the garden path if you stay with that shop. White smoke can be lean mixture or water but I would suggest a compression test done to check for a head gasket/ cracked head problem before I would consider an engine . I would also run the fault codes to check for EGR valve problems as these are subject to failure around your mileage.

PO171 and PO174 on Ford lightning

with all the stuff you have done you have not done this. cleaned out the intake and idler. cleaned out the low intake line on the intake. also any changes to ecu codes mean that every thing has to be in working order as the ecu changes it codes to suit engine maintenance. then over time it settles down. all updates to use code should be done on clean engine.

96 dodge ram 5 speed 318 5.2L that wont stay running

Yes you can run the engine without the sensor, maybe.
When you disconnect the sensor the computer uses a signal or number preset in the computer memory. Sometimes the engine will run and sometimes not, but it won't do any damage either way.
A mechanic would test the sensor by using a meter and a vac pump. The sensor measures engine vac.
You could always try a used part.

Knock sensor or Catalytic Converter?

Is the vehicle burning oil? It might not smoke, because the catalytic converter runs hot enough to burn up the smoke. Still, you are coating that converter from the inside if it is using much oil! Try using a heavier oil such as 30 weight ! Did you notice I did NOT say 5W, nor did I say 10W, before I said 30 weight? As an alternative, you could try using some Lucas Oil Treatment. In an old engine with lots of miles, thin oil, such as 5W ANYTHING or 10W ANYTHING is too thin for an engine which is WORN on the inside!

recon job poorly done. sounds like a gasket or engine/tranny seal. is there moisture droplets on the oil dipstick? How often do you change the oil? if you change it every 3 thousand miles or 3 months faithfully, and it is not leaking oil (you see no puddles under the car) onto your driveway or street where you park it, and there are no globs of black gunk on the underside of your car anywhere, then someone could have dropped something into the engine compartment somehow, through one of the spark plug holes, when the oil cap was off, etc.

Engine light comes on 2003 Jeep grand cherokee laredo

Check the Fuel Pump Relay, it may be malfunctioning and need replaced. Also, in some vechicles, if the batter is disconnected and reconnected, the service engine light will come on from time to time, going off and on simultaneously. Have a diagnostics done to see if any codes show up. If no codes appear, then have them all cleared and drive for another 200 miles. Sometimes the computer will need to be cleared a couple times before the light will stay off. Make sure that all fuses and relays are good, and securey in place. Check all factory installed lights to make sure they are good, and securly in place as well.

Dummie lights are trying to tell me something!!!!

The ABS light being on means the Anti-Lock Brake System has a problem and is shut off until repaired. The TC light should be Traction Control, which will come on when there is a problem with the ABS. If the check engine light is on then there is a issue with the engine controls, Testing will need to be done to come up with the fix to keep the lights off.

Check engine light.

Unfortunately the only way to reset that light is with a computer scanner. Autozone usually gives free diagnostics but I don't think they can turn off your light. Sounds like you need to have someone put a smoke machine on your vehicle to find the leak in your evap system. Hope this helps.
