Have a compression and leakdown test done, i suspect the coolant is leaking internally, either burning it or into the oil

Thay's a good amount for 2 days. starface has the right idea. a coolant leak into the combustion chamber is characterized by white smoke (actually steam) from the exhaust. checking oil, the color will will be like creamed coffee. indicating a leak into the oil.

My 2002 Pontiac Montana out of no where started to overheat and smoke from under the hood and the back it doesn't have a bad smell and all fans work so do my heat and my air so what can the problem...

First I'd check your water levels and top up if required. Then check for leaks. If all is good so far I'd look at your water pump to make sure water is circulating. So check the belts for the correct tension and check the pump for any leaks coming from it. Leaks can be a sign of a worn pump. Check the thermostat next to see if it opens at the correct temperature or remove it altogether. Hope this helps. Just don't drive to much on an overheating car as the can warp the cylinder head which is a much more expensive issue to put right.

Hi Sheila,so the dealer raised it in the air and inspected underneath for leakage.Usually the water pump, check at the thermostat, all hoses,is your carpet wet at the driver or passenger floor board, heater core could be leaking.

My 2001 e430 mercedes drives normal. Its bin 2 days it turns off when i come to a stop at a red light or stop sign but not all the time

check for vacuum leaks. you can use carburetor cleaner to find leak, car will idle higher when the fluid is sucked into vacuum system...take care not to spray onto exhaust...especially when hot...also, if plug wires are old, they can spark and ignite fluid.

Water not staying in radiator no sign of leaks in my 2000 bmw

does the car seem to run roughly? sounds like a possible head gasket or a cracked cylinder. is there an unusual amount of moisture coming out of the exhaust pipe, would smell like antifreeze gaseous sweet smell. a crack will fill either the top of a given cylinder but only when the engine is not running. head gasket will dump water into the oil giving it a milky look also will be prone to overheating

2001 Ford Escape. Coolant leaking from somewhere. Went through bottle of coolant in 2 days.

If there is no sign of a leak you need to test for cylinder head leaks.
Warm up the engine and remove the radiator cap. Top up the water to the neck of the filler. Squeeze the top hose a couple of times to shift any air in the top tank of the radiator. Run the engine on idle and check for bubbles it the radiator, keep it topped up to the neck. Bubbles showing means you have a head gasket problem.

My M/Benz c180 is over heating and boiling especially in trafic jams

Check the water level in the radiator and for any leaks on the radiator pipes. Check the condition of the thermostat and if there is rust inside the radiator. If so, replacements will be needed.

If the overheating is regular the cylinder head might warp so check the above quickly to ensure you don't need a top end (engine) rebuild. As a temporary measure you can add radweld to the radiator or an egg (if you're really stuck).

My s 430 has smoke coming from under hood after driving but not all the time temp gauage reads normal. I had oil and trans leaks sealed but it is still happening, what else could it be? Thanks

SMOKE UNDER HOOD COULD BE COOLANT LEAK FROM RADIATOR ITSELF OR CHECK FOR LEAKING TOP RADIATOR HOSE AND CHECK FOR LEAKING BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE.LOOK UNDER THE HOOD IF COOLANT BOILING OUT COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG ENGINE OVERHEATING FROM BAD THERMOSTAT OR BAD WATER PUMP.CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAK AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE.IF SO WATER PUMP NEED REPLACING.ADD MORE COOLANT UNTIL LEVEL CORRECT.TRY LOCATE LEAK. IF CAR OVERHEATED AND BOILED IT OUT. SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD CAN ALSO BE CAUSED BY LEAKING VALVE COVERS WHICH CAN BE FIRE HAZARD IF OIL LEAKS ON HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD.

MERCEDES SLK 200 MANUAL 17,000 MILES Reg. 2006 Water coolant warning light. Topped up with coolant After six weeks warning light came on Topped up again After six weeks warning light again Took...

the problem could be as simple as a faulty radiator cap from your description the water that is expelled when it gets hot is not being drawn back as the radiator cools down
could be a leak in the reservoir hose
I am thinking that the low coolant sensor in the top of the radiator tank is getting an air space and that is what is activating the light
I don't think it was head gasket problem as you would be overheating or loosing coolant within days not weeks I would go to an accredited radiator specialist shop and have a pressure test done for leaks in the system including the water pump leaking when running
I am saying that the vacuum created as the coolant cools down is not as good as it should be to draw water back from the reservoir to keep the radiator full to the cap
