SOURCE: i have a broken hood latch and the hood is down

Hi there,

Yes, there is a way. I've had to do it three times. Once I got it the first time, 2 and 3 were easy. You're going to need a flashlight and a long screwdriver or needlenose pliers.

Get to the grill and look through with the flashlight. You're looking for the hood release cable. Follow it as far as you can to just beneath the hood latch.

Now look for the clamp on the outer part of the cable. To the left of that you should see the inner cable (the part that moves and pulls the latch). Try to either grab it with the pliers or get the screwdriver above it and pull down. You'll here it click open when you get it.

If the cable is broken or off, you're still in the right area. Look for the latch assembly, there are two or three small arms beneath. Try to move each one to the right. Be patient, you'll get it open.

Comment me back to let me know how it goes.

Good Luck

SOURCE: the hood of the car

The solution clearly is to replace the release cable. Simple but unpleasant to do.

SOURCE: hood release wont latch

This maybe a problem of the hood being misaligned. in order to remedy this you will have to adjust the 4 bolts on the hinges holding the hood in place and the latch little by little. But first try a penetrating oil on the latch assembly and look for anything out of place.

Safety catch on hood wont release and hood wont re latch!

I would check to see if the hood release moves when the inside lever is pulled then pushed, if not the cable and latch mechanism may need lubrication or be broken.

I opened my hood for the first time since I bought. The hood won't close all the way. any suggestions.

If ir is a brand new car there is a safety latch that should hold the hood down. You can pull on the hood to be sure the safety latch is doing its job. Drive the new car take it back to the dealer or where ever you bought it.

They will slam the hood down and smile. Better them breaking the new car than you,'

It may be out of adjustment
You can manually activate the hood latch. There is a hook like assembly that follows the hood latch down when closed. You can activate this assembly by hand. Be sure to release it before attempting to close the hood again.

If it is a used car make sure the handle in the driver side has returned to the home position. If it has I would gently slam the hood down.

2005 durango hood will not close, only the safety latch engages

Try spraying some penetrating oil on the latch and use a screwdriver to push the latch down as if the hood was closed. Have someone pull the release on the inside and do it over several times to get the latch to move freely. If this does not work, check for hood alignment problems to see if it is contacting the latch properly.

The hood on my 99 sunfire is closed shut and won't

The cable is probably broken and not connected to the latch. There are two latches, a primary which the cable is connected, and the secondary or safety.
You'll have to try to access the latch from under the car going up between the bumper and the radiator. You may need a body shop to do it.

Cannot find the hood release latch.

On the drivers side lower panel left side or in the center. If your looking for the release on the hood its usually a tab under the grill or a tab will pop out from the grill area.

My hood won't close completely, it is on the safety lock I think but it won't go any further to close completely...Help I'm afraid to drive on the highway and fly open and kill me and others on the...

Start by checking the cable. If the cable is holding the latch open this will happen.Try spraying a little lube on the cable and latch mechanism while some one works the lever from inside. If this is the first time you have had this problen that more that likely this is the problem. The only other thing would be it your latch on the hood is not engaugeing fully into the reciever below then some adjustments will have to be made.

Hood will not close completely on 1996 Tahoe

Try "resetting" the lock. With the hood open-lube the lock good with wd-40 or similar and go pull the hood latch handle several times. See if it works good when your done. If not ,something may have got bent from closing attempts. Will have to look at adjustment then. Hope I helped. Thanks
