Question about 1992 Volvo 240

My car was idling at a light and it shut off on me, restarted right away but then shut off again in less than 60 second. I let it sit for about 20 mins and then it started again.

Sounds like a bad crank sensor, have car scanned to find problem code. if no scanner go to any auto parts store and they will scan for free. also check the fuel filter.

Engine stalling and rough run issue at low speeds

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

I changed the battery and the alternator and my lights went out and the car shut off


Check your fusible links leaving the positive battery cable,wires could be burnt or swollen.just check all wires coming from positive side of battery.Also check all fuses in fuse box.

1995 Ford F150 will not idle correctly after sitting in95 plus degree heat.


Try Spraying some MAF cleaner directly on the Mass Air Flow sensor. It can get dirty and swell in the heat and idle a bit funny...then as air goes across it and cools it the problem stops. I would have toughts vac leak or IAC but those dont just go away after less than one block. Unless that block is about 10 miles long. As a side note...if the problem exadurates and the truck just turns on a shuts right off then it's that pesky MAF :)

i would look into the idle air controll valve it controlls the idle on your car and since it starts a shuts off does it idle a little low when you start it then just stall out and shut off

My car I10 magna 1.1 irde, when engine starts battery, oil etc warning lights shut off immediately but malfaction light & EPS light shut off one after one. Is this any problem pls clarify.


Ok, with the battery, oil etc lights are governed by simple circuits, and therfore, as soon as they receive power, and earth, they turn off right away.

With the other lights, the malfunction and EPS lights, these go through a self-test function where they check a number of sensors, not just one, and they do this very quickly......the malfunction light checks out 20-35 different sensors, and in less than 1-2 seconds, thats fast.........

However, if they STAY on, then this is where it detects a problem and you should come back and see us again.

check to see if that vehicle has an idle air control module, if it does replace it,

Have the engine fans and relays checked. If the engine fan does not come on when the a/c compresser kicks in then the air that comes out the vents will be warm.

Car will start fine but will shut off as soon as I place in gear.


Here are the most common causes of surges, stalls at stops, low erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation, it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

1991 4cyl camry auto trans,engine cuts OUT while driving


replace the control moddule .its under the hood along the fire wall . i had a ford pickup would start fine . untill the moddule would get hot and shut off the motor it would crank and crank but if i let it sit and cool off it would start right up as if nothing was worng .let me know if you find the module . you might need to by a clymers book at a auto store and it'll tell everything there is to know about your car and were and how to find and replace everything
