Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

If the idler pulley and gives out and the timing belt skips and i replaced the idler and belt but im still getting no compression

Somehow your timing is off. The gears involved with the cams and crankshaft are not in the right positions. You really should get the Haynes car manual at your local auto supply store for your make, model and year of car. It will show you the correct alignment. Please do NOT try to start the engine before you follow the procedure in the book.

Timing belt

Never. The average car should survive it's lifetime without changing the timing belt. However, like anything, it can still break, wear out, or loosen up. No matter the issue, it is usually a major job to replace a timing belt, so give yourself time, and make sure to have the instructions on the exact procedures for changing the timing belt.

Timing belt removal for 1997 Dodge Avenger

There is some stuff to remove first, like the P.S. reservoir, the front motor mount (put a jack under engine with a piece of wood between), possibly the alternator bracket-not sure. And of course, the serpentine belt and the crankshaft pulley. Then the covers can come off. You'd better get a repair manual-it's pretty involved-even the procedure for cover removal. Or you can register for free at autozone.com, listing your car there. The site gives a fair number of model-specific repair procedures, including replacing the timing belt.
Good luck.
