Would a bad oil pressure switch cause a no start on a 98 b2500

Symptoms of a bad or failing Engine Oil Pressure Sensor
  • Oil Pressure Light comes on, and you check the engine oil level, But oil level is okay, you can blame the false reading on the sensor.
  • Oil Pressure Light blinking constantly. This is the normal >check< oil pressure sensor Warning that the sensor is going out.
  • If the sensor is giving false readings, Dispite oil level, the sensor could be replaced.
If the Sensor is currently not working, and does not warn you of engine oil level, and oil level gets extremely low, The Engine could burn up/stall due to lack of oil, and may not restart.
Then you could probably blame it on the sensor.
But really would be lack of oil.

Intermittent No Start,
Common causes deal with 3 basic systems/areas of engin
  1. Compression, its the build up of air and fuel into the engines cylinders. Then is compressed by the pistons. And is under pressure. FAILURE An Air leak (vacumm leak) will allow pressure to escape.
  2. Ignition System, good battery, good relays, wires are not loose or disconnected, good 10volts to starter, 10volts to distributer>gives 20kvolts to spark plugs>has strong spark to ignite compressed air in cylinders. Other sensors need to work. Crankshaft sensor(ccs) Throttle Position Sensor(TPS), +more
  3. Air/fuel Ratio, Air Intake Manifold, and Fuel Pressure Sensor *Fuel Injection Pressure Sensor---if car is fuel injected*, air filter is clean and intake manifold hose, Throttle Plate Acuater, Idle Air Contro Valve(IAC). Also vacumm leak cause no start. To much air not enough fuel will cause lean fuel mixter==low power, low idle, no start.......To much fuel not enough air will cause rich fuel mixter==too much fuel could cause engine knock, flooding of engine wet spark plugs, No Start

Check oil light stays on

Your vehicle may have an "oil level" sensor built into the oil pan. If so, and the sensor is bad, the dash will constantly tell you that the engine needs more oil even if it does not. Checking the oil with the dipstick, a minute after the engine has been turned off on level ground is always the best way to check your oil. Try scanning the vehicles computer systems to see if there are any fault codes. The warning light may also be on a timer that just needs to be reset. The "Check Oil" light should be separate from the engine oil pressure warning light. As long as the engine oil pressure light stays off, you should be ok. Checking the oil pressure with a manual gauge would be a good idea as well.

2006 Pontiac vibe with 102,000 miles (just got an oil change). It's seven degrees outside in case that may be relevant. Turned the car on, let it warm up. Left the house and drove for about ten minutes (40...

Is that a low oil pressure light or a silly Check Engine light? Check the engine oil level and the automatic transmission fluid level. If those are ok, it could be a bad filter or the wrong oil, possibly a bad sending unit.
BTW, there's no need to let that engine idle up to temperature even in cold weather. A minute is quite sufficient as long as you have oil pressure. Otherwise you're wasting fuel and creating more pollution since the engine efficiency is lowest at idle.

98 chevey malibu...drove it 4 blocks hesitated at stop signs then oil light came on parked it... now it trys start but wont stay running..making funny noise on top engine what possibly the

Okay, the oil may have come on due to the engine stalling, when the engine dies out the oil light will come on and also you may get the battery and other lights but as far as the no start that will have to be the first problem to look at then when it runs the noise will be next. the first thing would be the fuel also make sure the oil level is full on some of the newwer cars the engine will not run when oil is to low, im not sure on yours but make sure oil is full first, the fuelpump may have gone bad, the first thing you need to have done is scan the computer for codes, the codes will help if there are codes stored by the computer but a scan tool will be needed to get codes, if you dont have one then the only thing you can do is a spark test, which you would remove a plug or coil wire and spin engine over to see if theres spark and the other test would be to spary starting fluid into throtlebody and then trying to start engine and if its a fuel problem the engine will start and then stalll once the starting fluid has burned away, and this will mostlikely be due to a bad fuelpump. if this is a sensor problem then without a diagnosic scan tool it will be hard to find that problem.

On a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan does the check engine light come on when it is low on oil or needs an oil change?

NO. the check engine light only comes on when theres a problem, you will need to have the computer scanned for codes. whenever the computer sees a problem with the engine or other components it records the problem and turn on the light, there are codes that are stored in the computer with the problem. there are many auto part stores that will scan the computer and give you the codes, if you write back with all the same info but also list the codes i can help you better, a quick note, a loose or off gas cap can even turn the light on but again without the code or codes its hard to say, good luck.

2003 ford expedition... shaking when driving and during stop. check engine soon light keeps flashing. recently had spark plugs changed.

will try to help.the shaking during braking may be a warped brake rotor, shaking while driving is in the wheel alignment. you have several issues to deal far as the engine light flashing, check all your fluid levels in the engine. oil,low coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid. top off fluids as needed. you can reset that engine light by disconnecting the positive cable from the battery for 10mins.this will reset the cars computer. but if you have a sensor or other issues, that light will come back on.the only way to know for sure is to have it code read a garage or dealership will be able to plug it in to get the codes for you.hope this helps and thank you for choosing
