Question about 2006 Peugeot 405

1 Answer

Took Peogeot 207 in for first MOT. Only work needed was to brake lights - replaced control switch. Car came out with extremely keen and sharp brakes. After driving about a mile brakes started to bind and I eventually just made it back to the garage with the brakes fully on and hardly able to move. Garage looked at it and the peddle felt better. Took it home and went out in it in the evening and the same thing happened. Was lucky to get back home. Refused to drive it back to the garage - they arranged for collection and by the morning the brakes were free. The problem has now disappeared

2006 brake light will not go out

Light gets power from brake light switch/.May be switch got shorted an brake light getting non-stop power causing it not to turn OFF brake light.

Get the brake light switch checked. Check volt at brake light switch.

It can be faulty brake light switch causing the problem or its wiring short for switch.

TCS light and Brake light stay on.

The main reason the TCS light is on is because there is a problem with the main brake system. The traction control system uses the hydraulic brakes to help keep the car on the road in a skid or other event.
If the main brake system is faulty, the TCS can't do its job.
The hydraulic brake system may be working fine in your case, but the TCS does not know that.
I wonder if that low fluid switch can be bought separately ??

Tail lights and hazards work but my brake lights dont work

Check the bulbs first of all (and fuses), if this is not the problem it is probably the brake light switch. If your car has cruise control, see if pressing the brakes make the cruise control go off. If not, you definitely have a bad brake light switch. If they do go off, though, it doesn't mean the brake light switch is not bad. You really need to take the swich off and test it with a multimeter set to ohms or continuity. If the switch tests bad, you know it has to be replaced, so if you are ambitious and mechanically inclined, you could take it apart and see if you can fix it. I was actually able to take a brake light switch apart, repair it, and put it back in the car on one occasion. It only worked for a few weeks, but it got me by.

Ive just bought my audi a4 S.E 1.8 petrol 1998.. with 164k...when i bought it the abs lightt was on and also the brake warning indicator light comes on and stays on flashing, and at the same time the abs...

as the mot only says the "brakes work"to a certain efficiency,(the tester does NOT check the depth/thickness of the pads),chances are your pads/discs are in need of replacement.the pads have sensors in them for wear depth, so when checking the pads, front AND rear the abs sensors can be cleaned, and if done by a seat/skoda/vw/audi dealer they can put it on the diagnostic computer to give you a definative answer (this is cheaper than guessing) I replace the pads myself but get the car "diagnosed"when any red light shows.

Suzuki Grand Vitara 1999:

Going by your description I think it could be something different, I would have the brake master cylinder checked, if you are suffering brake failure and shuddering it sounds like your callipers arent getting equal pressure when you apply the brakes. Or a freat lack of pressure to suffer brake failure. I hope this helps.

Parking lights work third brake light works, just not back brakes?

The bulbs do not need to be replaced! The answer to this problem is believe it or not in the turn signal lever, or multi-function switch. It is extremely common on these cars, and usually mis-diagnosed. Try this before going any farther. Back the vehicle up to a wall, or have a person stand behind the car, and pull the turn signal lever slightly towards you as if you were switching between hi and low beams. I guarantee that when you put just a little pressure on the lever your brake lights will work. If you want the problem fixed, you need to have the switch (and lever arm) replaced from inside the steering column, and you need someone to remove the airbag to do this. The switch is roughly $200 from an aftermarket parts store. If you learn to drive your car and just know that when you brake you can pull back on the lever to make the lights work great, I did for a few years in mine. But I guarantee that is the answer to your problem

Brake lights do not work All bulbs have been replaced.

Troubleshooting Procedures - Read Completely Before Beginning
(American Car) All Brake Lights Not Working
  • Check System Fuse: A fuse is used to protect the brake light circuit from amperage overload. If the fuse has failed it will not allow the electrical current to continue to the brake lights. To check the fuse, first locate the brake light system fuse in the fuse panel which is either under the dash or under the hood in the power distribution center. Connect the test light to a ground like an engine or dash bracket and turn the ignition key to the "on" position. Using the test light probe both sides of the fuse. If the test light illuminates on both sides the fuse is ok continue onto the next step. If one side of the fuse illuminates the fuse has failed and needs to be replaced. If the fuse fails as soon as it is replaced or when you apply the brake pedal the brake light electrical circuit is shorted to ground. Rarely a system short can occur, a car repair manual is needed to find the wiring schematic for the brake light circuit. Once the brake light wiring has been located inspect and repair as needed.
  • Check Brake Light Bulbs: All cars have three brake light bulbs that create the brake light illumination affect. If all of these brake light bulbs fail no brake light operation will occur. I know what you're thinking, you might say all three brake lights at once? But in reality one brake light went out at a time and you did not notice. People only tend to notice something when they almost run into the back of your car to help persuade them to inform you the brake lights aren't working. Remove any of the brake light bulbs to confirm the bulb is ok or burned. After the bulb has been removed inspect the filament and replace if failed. If the brake light bulbs are ok continue to the next step.
  • Checking the Brake Light Switch: A control switch is used to connect the brake light electrical circuit. This switch is located near the brake pedal lever. Basic switches have just two wires, power in and power out to the turn signal switch. Use a test light that is grounded and with the key in the "on" position test for power at one side (wire) of the switch, then press the brake pedal while testing the opposite side (wire). It should illuminate the test light, if electrical power is connected through the switch go to the next step. If no power is detected through the switch the brake light switch has failed and replacement is required. If your car is equipped with more than two wires integrated into the brake light switch a car repair manual is needed to locate the proper brake light circuit wiring.
