There were no squeaks, nor any pulling at the steering wheel. The axle shaft and brakes are extremely hot. Smoke was coming from the front wheel assembly. I drove home later and the problem reoccurred. I neglected to test how difficult it was to turn the hub after removing the tire. I then tapped on the caliper with a ball peen hammer and some rust came out and it turns with some effort.
The caliper ,or the caliper brake hose is bad,get it to lock up,then open the bleed valve on the caliper,if the caliper turns loose of the rotor, then the hose is bad,if it does not turn loose the caliper is the part to replace.
The caliper itself may be locked up or the brake hose collapsed.Try pushing the caliper piston in if it doesn't go in at first try to open the bleeder screw and push the piston in if the caliper is ok it should push in easily with the bleeder open,This would indicate a brake hose that has collapsed. If it doesn't go at all the caliper is frozen and needs to be replaced but if things got that hot you may want to replace it anyway. You should flush the brake fluid out and put fresh brake fluid in as you probably boiled the fluid.
Could be a bad wheel bearing, any weird noises coming out from that side lately?
