Question about 2002 Mazda Tribute

1 Answer

I have reached 150,000 miles on my 2002 Mazda Tribute. I have changed the oil regularly as directed. Should I now be using a different oil since reaching 150,000 miles?

No, keep using the same oil, never use anything heavier than 10W30W no matter the miles

Dealer said aluminum oil pan was becoming porous 2002 mazda tribu

Not likely. My 2001 Tribute developed a leak at the oil pan gasket about two years ago. I got the gasket replaced, but it was expensive. I would take it to another shop and get a second opinion.

Engine

200,000-300,000 miles if you keep up with oil changes and belt changes especially the timing belt this is usually the most important belt if it brakes you'll need a new engine. Change this belt around 80-100,000 miles.

I have a 2006 Mazda Tribute. Can you tell me what the recommended time is between lube and oil changes. Is it 3000 miles or 5000. Thanks

It used to be every 3 months or 3,000 miles but some manufacturers are suggesting that 5,000 miles is ok. My view is that it does not hurt the motor having more oil changes. I continue to have them done every 3,000 miles myself even if my oil life indicator has not come on. Clean oil is very important to have a engine last for many miles. There are some full synthetic oils that can go for 5,000 or 7,000 miles beteween oil changes but cost alot more than the standard oil.

O k whats the deal, Tribute v6 has 178,000 miles. Some people say use synthetic oil and some say don't. I'm confused, what do I use?

You want to use the oil the manufacturer originally used, switching oils is bad on a vehicle and if Mazda wanted a different oil used, they would have originally put it in it. Now something good to mix with your oil is Lucas Oil Treatment. That helps with aging motors and High mileage motors, but do not switch your oil.

Tune up

the 1st tune is due at 100,000 miles and it is just spark plugs, fuel and air filters should be changed every 30,000, 60,000,90,000 and so on. Also the timing belt was due for replacement at 90,000, if u didn't have it done then now is the time before it breaks and causes engine damage.

REPAIR MANUAL NEEDED!!!!

The 2002, 2003 and 2004 Mazda MPV's all use the same Ford 6 cyl. 3.0 duratec engine. The Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute of those years use the same engine. Therefore if you need an inexpensive engine repair manuel for your 2002 MPV, get the Haynes ($20.00) 2001-2007 Escape/Tribute manuel. Mazda sells the a MPV shop manuel for $180.00. I also own a 2002 Mazda MPV LX. 75k miles.
