The blower motor resistor is for the speed of the blower not the direction of air flow you need to check the operation of the air flow direction control flaps

Thanks for responding Guru... Wher are the air flow direction flaps located?

  • Jim May 29, 2010

I'm UK based so not familar with GMC but most heaters operate on the same principle, the flaps are inside the heater box, if they operate with cables you will see them at the sides of the heater box attatched to the control levers, so check that they move and operate the levers, if the levers don't move the cable may be broken or adrift from the controls on the dash.
the heater box can be seen under the dash, you will need to check both sides to look for the levers, you may have to remove part of the lower dash to see them, hope this helps

    Regards

    Jim

Have you replaced the blower motor speed control resistor located next to the blower motor? If no that may be the problem.

1996 Lincoln Mark 8 AC controllers working blowers working nothing coming out of the vent

I noted your question. You said that NOTHING is coming out of the VENT. Do you mean the interior vents normally for heat and air? Does air blow out of your dash defrost vent? Does blower motor work continuously? If so, I suggest that you check fuse panel at driver's door. If you have your owner's guide, look on pages 251 and 252. 251 shows your interior fuses. 252 shows description for Fuse #9 (10A). You have numerous 10A fuses. #9 is the lowest fuse perpendicular to Fuse #10 (15A). If it is blown, you have some sort of resistance in one of 4 things RUN BY THE FUSE. I went to my mechanic and he told me that the Blower Motor Control Resistor behind the glove compartment was bad. I replaced it (125 dollars) and it was not the problem. Check the fuse. Is it blown? Replace and the system may work normally. If it continues to blow please get back to me. If the system works after replacement, please respond.

Pull the blower motor out and clean out the leaves and other vegetable matter that has gotten in there, it is burning off on the very hot blower motor resistor coils

AC is only blowing through the defrost vents in the dashboard?

I think your problem is the head unit that selects where the air comes out ie. Face, floor, defrost, or hi-level face and floor. If that's not working then it will not let you switch location that you want the air to come out.

OK. So the blower notor isn't operating. Do you have power to the blower motor? The resistor is new from what I got. If you don't have power to the blower motor, then check the speed control switch and fuses. If you have power at the blower motor, replace the blower motor

Blower motor vent selection switch not working

the hvac selector switch in the dash may be the problem. You need to remove the switch and look at the connector on the back of switch, see if there are any burnt wires at the connector or switch. It's all electronic and the switches have been known to burn out on this and other model.
