Ford Taurus SES 3.0 L 6-cylinder
EGR valve are directly behind the intake manifold.

I listen from Taurus owners that just had the same problem (EGR insufficient and EGR excessive) and they replaced the EGR valve and the 4 oxygen sensors (if you do this use Ford sensors). This didn't fix the problem; then changed the Vacuum Regulator Solenoid and a tube mounted sensor part numbers F63Z-9J459-AA, and 4U7Z-9J460-AA. this fixed my check engine light and code issues, as well as it stopped idling so high that it caused the trans to jump into gear. It sometimes jumped so hard that he thought he had a broken motor mount.

Need to find and replace the DPFE-15 sensor. Dealership diagnosed when service engine light came on and saaid this is what needed replacing. Problem is I do not know where to find it on the engine.


Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system is designed to:
  • reintroduce exhaust gas into the combustion cycle.
  • lower combustion temperatures.
  • reduce the formation of oxides or nitrogen (NOX).
The amount of exhaust gas reintroduced and the timing of the cycle varies by calibration. Timing and volume are controlled by the following:
  • engine rpm
  • engine vacuum
  • exhaust system back pressure
  • engine coolant temperature
  • air charge temperature
  • throttle position
The EGR valve (EGR valve) (9D475) is vacuum-actuated. The vacuum hose routing diagram is shown on the Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) decal. The EGR system is a differential pressure feedback EGR Sensor system. Differential pressure feedback EGR Sensor is a subsonic closed loop EGR system. The differential pressure feedback EGR system:
  • monitors EGR flow rate by the pressure drop across the metering orifice located in the EGR tube.
  • uses a differential pressure feedback EGR sensor as the feedback device.
  • uses the EGR valve only as a pressure regulator, rather than a flow metering device.
  • controlled pressure is varied by the valve movement using vacuum output of the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid (9J459).
  • allows for a more accurate assessment of EGR flow requirements.

Differential Pressure Feedback EGR Sensor Removal
  1. Disconnect engine control sensor wiring (12A581) from Differential Pressure Feedback EGR Sensor.
  1. Disconnect Differential Pressure Feedback EGR Sensor hoses from EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube (9D477).
  1. Remove retaining nuts or bolts (depending upon application) and EGR Differential Pressure Feedback transducer.
Installation
  1. Follow removal procedure in reverse order.
  1. Tighten retaining nuts or bolts (depending upon application) to 5-7 Nm (45-61 lb-in).

PO402 trouble code....how is this repaired


Exhaust gas recirculation flow excessive. First things to check is your vacuum hoses to egr position sensor (Dpfe sensor) Egr solenoid & egr valve. If they are off, melted or sucked in they need to be replaced. Usually a specific code will be set for that but not always. Of the three the dpfe sensor also known as egr position sensor is the most common & easiest to replace. Next in order is the egr solenoid. Lastly if it comes to changing egr valve make sure to clean all carbon build up in cavity that egr mounts to. They commonly plug up.

P0403 what to do


The dpfe sensor of the egr system has failed you.This is not an egr valve problen rather the sensor has i mentioned . The part runs about $ 65:)

1998 winstar 3 litre runs (when you finally get it going ) at idle, stalls when you give it gas new filter, pump,egr good, no vacume leaks, good pressure at rail, has spark, no engine codes,good pressuure...


Sounds like it could have a plugged catalytic converter.Take to a reputable muffler shop and have a back pressure test performed.The one we deal with charges about $15.00 to check.The other way to test is remove the o2 sensor in front of the cat and see if runs.

Code p0406 dodge grand caravan 3.8 engine. Is it the EGR valve or the O2 sensor?


P406 is a EGR code, EGR will also cause a knocking/ pinging sound when there bad. Very common problem. The position sensor inside the valve goes bad. Your going to have to replace the whole EGR valve and it can put out variety of codes from P0401 to P0406. The new valve will solve the problem and easy to replace, you can pick one up at Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the EGR with common tools. How to remove egr valve on 1997 lincoln towncar


The EGR valve can be replaced by using a pipe wrench, or a standard wrench to remove the fitting over the pipe going into the EGR valve... it's not too hard to replace, I've done it on mine myself... I have a 97 town car as well... the only problem is that my EGR valve was fine, but the computer told me it was bad... But I found out that the EGR sensor was bad, not the valve... now to replace the EGR sensor you need to remove the engine... FORD in their infinite wisdom decided to put the EGR sensor on the rear of the engine, half way down next to the firewall...

My mechanic said that as long as the car is running fine, I souldnt worry about the EGR sensor, its job is to tell me when the EGR valve is bad...

yes it is..you need to replace egr valve assembly..make sure you disconnect battery while replacing..some times fault will return even after replacing valve..

Need location of the erg sensor 2000 ford ranger


The egr valve has two sensors. One is an EGR position sensor which is physically attached to the EGR valve. The other sensor is the DPFE (Delta Pressure Feedback EGR) sensor, commonly called the EGR pressure sensor. It's location varies depending on the engine you have. You can fine this sensor by following the vacuum hose on the EGR valve. It will be with in inches of the EGR valve. The sensor will be black (plastic) or silver (metal), have two or three vacuum ports and an electrical connection on it.

The vacuum pressure sensor is a high failure item on fords. Any Ford parts department will have one in stock, as well as some aftermarket parts stores.

The new sensor may not look exactly the same as the old part, but will have all the hook ups as the old one. You may also need to replace the vacuum hose to the sensor as well

The code 404 doesn't mean anything unless you read the code book, but if its pertaining to the EGR Valve Position Sensor Low or High. This means the EGR Sensor is stuck and the EGR Valve will need to be replaced and the code cleared.
