I have a a 1997 toyota haice bus. itis over heating. I done change the radiator and the hoses. the thermostat is out and the water pump is not leaking. the head is good. what can still be the problem that is causing it to over heat

You can replace the radiator yourself, but why do you need to? The thermostat is on the engine. Follow the large hose that goes to the engine block....not the water pump. The thermostat is under that or sits on the top of the engine....looking for a pic for you!

i assume its a 4 cyl?? will this car ever overheat if just sitting idle? when it begins to overheat, hows the heat in the cab? sounds like maybe the radiator is partially clogged or restricted somehow. i would change the radiator cap and make sure the overflow is set to proper level. (incl. radiator level) i wouldnt jump to headgasket just yet, they are pretty durable from what ive seen

i had the same problem, my mate is a Toyota mechanic and started by checking the radiator cap pressure, as if it doesnt have enough pressure it will run out of the expansion tank and leak! So i changed that as it was bad. Then he changed the termostat and things have been good since.

Hi Kim,

I can feel your frustration. It sounds like you've done all the logical stuff already. The "donut hole" in your process would seem to be not changing the water pump. The water pump as you might imagine, is responsible for circulating (pumping) the relatively cool water in the radiator into the running engine that contains the hot water. Hoses connect the two together. A thermostat is between the radiator and the engine. Once the water in the running engine gets to a certain temperature, the thermostat opens allowing the water pump to send cool water into the engine and hot water out to the radiator to be cooled. The heater core is usually on the passenger side firewall area.

It sounds like the water pump is the only thing left to change - if it isn't working - it can't circulate the water - and will result in overheating. Lastly, a clogged heater core shouldn't cause the engine to overheat - in fact, if the engine begins to overheat, you should turn the heat to HIGH fan and HIGH temperature to help remove some of the heat in the coolant.

1998 cherokee jeep over heating.took out thermostat changed water pump hoses raditator water seems to not be flowing into block


thermostat in backwards.the part that senses temperature change isn't exposed to the hot coolant inside the engine. , or coolent passages clogged, here is what sometimes will happen:

They can and will totally clog up, try to flush the system if not too far clogged.

Radiator fan not working unless ect switch is unplugged, also lower rad hose cool to the touch


Hi
Do you have a bleed valve on or around radiator / radiator pipes.
if yes the undo the valve and leave the car running till it bleed.
once its bleed, you will have full circulation of the water and both pipes will heat up also the fan will come on.

If no bleed valve then undo the water bottle or metal cap.
start the car up and leave it running till the fan kicks in. it will only kick in when the system is bled and no more air in the system.

Usually, hoses pop off if the radiator/expansion tank cap is incorrect/broken. Find out if this "mechanic" changed the cap, if they did, get the old one back or get a replacement from the dealer. I have never gotten a dependable replacement from any parts stores. If they didn't change it, change it anyway and see what happens.

1988 b2200 is overheating--we've changed out the lower radiator hose, thermostat, and the upper hose is fine. Why is it overheating? Radiator, heat pump, or water pump?


!st check and make sure the water is flowing in the radiator, then check
the timeing, Mazda will run hot if the timeing is rong.

Over heating already replaced thermostat new radiator new bottom hose new water pump it is still over heating


You seem to have done all posibilities. A test though to try would be remove the thermostat, put it back to gether with-out it and run the engine. Also, if you do that try it with the rad cap off so you can see if the water is circulating. It wouldn't if the water pump impellors are damaged.

Try first to fill up the radiator while squeezing the top part of the radiator hose to clear out the air.  Observe once that is done.  this may be caused by a radiator cap that is not sealing the pressure correctly or some parts the cooling system that may let heat escape like radiator hoses that are not secure.  If they all seemed to check out, you may want to have your head gasket checked.

Car overheat frequently and at time the engine sound is very loud


Several things can cause this overheating. Have you recently done a:
1. Check Hoses for Leaks
2. Check Radiator for Leaks --- Also, Change Radiator Cap ( can loose pressure there if
cap is bad)
3. Check Water Pump for Leaks. If Water Pump is bad, you will hear a loud noise from it
4 Complete Tune Up? Should be done at least 1x a Yr. Depending on how much you drive the Vehicle. Includes: Plugs, Plug Wires, Gas Filter, Air Breather Filter, PCV Valve, Adjust Timing,
Check Belts -- see if worn
5. Changed your Thermostat & Gasket and have the correct degree Thermostat in the Vehicle?
6.. Had your Radiator Rod and Cleaned out?
7. Temperture Sending Unit (located near Thermostat) could be bad
8. 02-Sensor (Generally located in the Exhaust Manifold - needs a socket with a space in it
to allow the Socket to fit over this top wire of the 0-2 Sensor )
9. Change oil and oil Filter.
10. Change Gas Tank Cap ---

Do all this yearly ( except the Radiator Rod & Clean ( do every 2-3 yrs), and you should not have
any over-heating nor stalling out, etc. and should pass emissions as well.
