How long does it take to replace the starter on a 2000 S Type Jag?

This is a good 4-5 + hour job for a professional.

In this vehicle the steering rack must be removed for access... along with a rear engine height adjusting tool (Jack)

See the following:

  1. Working from below the vehicle, remove the power steering rack for access. (biggest part of the job.)
  2. Disconnect the starter motor main terminal.
  3. Disconnect the starter motor solenoid terminal.
  4. Remove the starter motor bolts.
  5. Carefully remove the starter motor.
  6. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the starter motor securing bolts to 38-48 Nm.
  7. Install the steering rack. Refill the reservoir with the recommended fluid and bleed the steering system.
  8. Lower the car.
  9. Connect the battery and install the battery cover.

Jaguar 2000 S-Type 4.0L V8 gas, Where is the starter located? Trying to determine if I should attempt to replace the starter. I have replaced starters before on US made cars. I don't even know where...

Looking from the front of the car, the starter is on the left hand side of the engine, low down at the back of the engine block. It is just visible from the top of the engine.

Sometimes the car won't start. Battery and cables are good. The relay in the engine fuse box clicks but no starter engagement. Wait a few minutes and then it starts normally?

If the relay is clicking (and this is the starter relay) there is a possibility that the contacts on the relay have burned to the point that they will not allow current to flow. If you replace the relay (or if it's the type that the cover can be removed, you might be able to actually see if the contacts are burnt). But if you replace the relay and it still won't start have the starter checked.

When I try starting my 2000 Jeep Wrangler I hear a clicking noise but that is all. I was told to tap on the starter solenoid while turning the key but I don't know where the solenoid is located. Can yo...

the starter solenoid is on top of the starter, the starter is on the bottom rear of engine, the problem u are discribing is a defective starter solenoid, with this type of starter I doubt that tapping on it will make the truck start, u will need to replace the starter solenoid.
